My friend and I were in the area and looked up local places to eat for lunch and came across Skooters. A local Diner in Windsor Locks and decided to try it, have never been to a Skooters. We arrived, not to busy, well staffed and sat ourselves down right away. Small place, can sit at the counter or at a table. Waitress came over took our drink order and gave us time to look over the menu. They give you cups and you help yourself to the fountain machine. I ordered a single bacon cheeseburger, lettuce tomato, mayo and fries. My friend ordered a breakfast sandwich sausage egg and cheese on a roll with home fries. The food was out within minutes hot and exactly what you would imagine Diner food tasting like. We both enjoyed our meals. However the patty was very thin and I would get a double patty next time to go with the size of the tomatoes and lettuce. If you know what I mean. Price was reasonable and I would definitely go back. Skooters has many other Diner Classics you can choose from as well. Bathroom was also very clean and tidy. By the time we left the place was filled up and people were waiting for a seat.

I've looked at this place every time I've been in hartford. I've always avoided it because it's 50s theme and growing up spent so much timecar cruises and I've had my fill of 50s music. I decided to go this morning though and, wow, I have been missing out. Not only was the food great, but I was given a free show by Mona Lisa and her best friend Trudy. Two wonderful women that worked so perfectly in sync they must have been doing it for years. From the outside the place looks so much larger than it is. When you walk in it's set up like an old school diner, counter on the right facing the grill, and a few small tables along the wall on the left. I had coffee to go with my breakfast which was great. I did notice that it was a self-serve fountain drinks which was needed because these two women working had so much to do but yet made me and everyone inside feel welcomed and appreciated. It almost makes me want to have more short layovers layovers in Hartford so I can come back to enjoy this place. Almost šŸ˜‰ I will be making it back to Skooter's anytime I do though.

I ordered the fish and chips and my fish had a really strong taste and smell of ammonia. And the older guy with the ponytail told me that was normal and they can’t help that. Some fish they get are just like that and tried to assure me that all of their fish comes fresh. Funny thing is, I’m a pescatarian and that’s the only thing I eat when it comes to meat. So, no that is not normal. I paid for the food to avoid problems but didn’t tip which would’ve been $20 and about the cost of the fish. They lost a customer but they didn’t seem to want me there anyway, so I guess they’re happy. It’s such a shame because I was just there yesterday for the first time and thought that would be a new go to place for me. Now it’s crossed off my list. I really want to go back tomorrow just to show that guy what it says about fish that smell and taste like ammonia on google, just to see what he’s going to say, but don’t think I have the energy for it. But I’m definitely looking forward to the owner’s reply to this review. There probably won’t be one.

I’m not quick to say some place is racist, but I was with 3 other people of color and we all recognized what was going on. We are visiting this area for the first time, and since this restaurant was so close to the airport we decided to eat here. No one spoke to us when we walked in, so we figured it was seat yourself??? We sat down, still no one spoke to us. After about 20 minutes of no one even giving recognition to us being there, one of us said to one of the waitresses ā€œhow do we go about ordering?ā€. She said she would be with us in a minute, proceeded to slam the chairs into the table next to us as she passed us, came up to us and said ā€œwhat do you want?ā€. Not what would you like to drink, not welcome in. We were all in shock. We decided to leave at this point so I can’t speak on the food but to be a visitor in this state and this is the first public interaction we have did not set a good tone. As soon as we walked in there was a straight racist vibe, but we tried to push past it. By the point she was slamming chairs into tables and clearly didn’t want to serve us, we felt it best to leave. And all she said was ā€œokā€ and just as quickly turned away from us. I’m genuinely shocked that in this day and age, with so many things that are going on, people still decide to be racist. Don’t go to this restaurant, very much gives off the vibe they would spit in your food if you are a person of color. 0 stars would be generous for a place that treats anyone like we were just treated. I’m sure this place has records of who was on shift at 11:45 on May 23, 2024- and for you to be in business you should really care enough to either correct the actions of this behavior or have zero tolerance for it. To say it is completely unacceptable is me putting it very lightly. I’m still shaking and heart racing from how terrible that entire interaction just was at...

I have never been treated so poorly at a reaturant. We came in for dinner. Once we were all sat and our drink order was taken (which we were told was self serve ). This was after sitting for 15 mins. If we were informed the restaurant closed in 30 mins. If we would have been informed right off we would have went elsewhere. No problem. But Instead they portrayed they could serve us no problem. When I have encountered this in the past if you are served at 30 min till close you get your food and the resturant gives you time to eat as they clean up etc. We got our food and within 15 Mins we were promptly told its time time to go. No hey are you done? What else can I get you? Nope it's time to go. Where is the check?? Come up and we will give you your check. No itemized bill just a diner bill with our order hand written no prices. The total was given without any way to know what cost what. Very unprofessional. Drinks were self serve which I have never seen at a diner. We basically got what we wanted out of the cooler. Water self serve from the soda machine. We were served on paper plates...another sign they didn't want us to eat there. Had to ask repeatedly for silverware etc. The locals at the bar area eating were treated with respect and kindness....and even had real plates and diner ware. Us, not so much. The breakfast food was great. The cheeseburgers were very small and no lettuce, tomato, nothing. McDonald's cheeseburger size. The ruben was good. Fries crisp. Fried fish was good. All you had to do was say we are closing and we can't start a new order right off the bat and off we would have respected that. Nope Instead we are very happy to take your money but get out we want to go home....
