So-so sushi, Poor customer service
My husband and I ate at Sora Sushi tonight and had a rather disappointing experience. We decided to dine there to try out their Happy Hour, as listed on Yelp. We arrived just after 5pm and were one of only two tables. Sat for a few minutes with no service at all. Two new tables showed up a couple minutes after we arrived. They were given menus helped within a couple minutes. We were given menus after them, with not a word said. Just set down the menus and left. After looking through the menu for a minute or so, we flagged down the server to ask if they were still doing Happy Hour (listed as 5-6pm, $2 Nigiri, $2 beer.) The server aggressively told us there was no Happy Hour and never had been. We said, “really? It’s listed very specifically at this location.” She raised her voice even more said “NO NOT HERE” and left. Ughhh sorry for asking, maybe don’t yell at your customers. The other tables had their orders takenshortly after and we were ignored. Another few minutes went by before we set a timer and said we’d leave if they didn’t come by within a few minutes. The other tables who arrived after us now we’re getting their food delivered by a different employee, and they FINALLY came and took our order. We still didn’t even have something to drink, despite being there for about 25 minutes. When the sushi arrived (Seattle Roll, Philly Roll, Salmon Nigiri, Spicy Tuna, and Monkey Brain Roll) it was presented nicely, but had almost no flavor. Some of the most bland sushi I’ve ever had in my life and low quality fish. Nothing about our meal tasted fresh, including the nigiri. The Monkey Brain was a hassle to eat and a waste of money. Hugely disappointing for a $50 meal. If the food had been tasty, we’d probably consider coming back and chalk it up to weird service, but nothing about our visit was enjoyable. It was all varying shades of unpleasant or just boring. Definitely will...
Read moreTLDR: fancy and romantic setting. Sushi is better than other dishes.
Let me start by saying that this place is fancy. You walk in and feel underdressed. Very nice table settings and piano music playing in the background. Your water comes with a slice of lemon and a straw that still has part of the paper on it covering the mouth part. Definitely a good date night place.
Check out the decor hanging from the ceiling!
Menu is small but descriptive. No pictures for the visually motivated. You also get a laminated sushi menu to mark how many of what pieces/rolls uo
Service: wait to be seated, order at the table, check brought to you, table service.
Bento Box Dinner: the miso soup it comes with looks and tastes like cloudy water. It had no flavor and had the sorriest bits and pieces of seaweed. Some tiny tofu chunks but it literally looked and tasted like I got the bottom of the barrel. Wasn't too impressed with the bento overall. One thing that came to a surprise to me was that it comes with brown rice. Chicken katsu is crispy and there's a generous proportion of it. Tempura is typical tempura, salad is a medley of greens in an orange sweet and tart dressing.
Sake Don: sushi rice is flavorful and is sprinkled with tobiko. The salmon roe is a nice touch. Nice large and satisfying pieces of salmon sashimi.
Seattle Roll: generous proportion of salmon--great salmon to cucumber/avocado ratio.
Overall not too impressed with the bento. Sushi is promising though. Will come back again sometime in the future and see if something changes...
Read moreWe normally always eat in Millcreek @ sushi Zen but decided now that we live in Monroe, we try a place closer to us. Photos looked inviting so we made appointment for 8 since we don’t get off work until 7:30. She told me to be there before 8!pm, guessing because they close at 9. I felt rushed already and should have canceled but i thought oh well, maybe she was trying to just get out of there but they don’t open till 5 so i don’t get it….waitress was just bland. No emotions at all. Seemed like we where a burden. We ordered the bento box. It had fried veggies, two of them lol, that’s it. Two shrimp and tons of fried chicken that not only smelled like fish but also tasted like fish. I swear if i closed my eyes i would have thought it was Gross , tough fish. I think they used the same oil to fry as they do with their shrimp and fishy products. I didn’t eat the chicken after two bites. I gave it to my dog, it was so gross. I was sick to my stomach when i got home and had to throw up (I’m sorry) i felt so sick . I will stick with a friendly service and fresh food at Sushi Zen in Millcreek and never to return to this place. If you don’t know any better i guess you rate it the way you like but if you tried sushi zen, you’d know what I’m talking about. Let’s not forget at 2 min to 9 they turned off the lights to the beverage coolers, no music and already ready to kick you out. Got two stars because the desert...
