About a month ago I saw the St Patrick’s Day menu go up on their facebook. Served till 9 and no reservations was all it said. I was VERY excited to try this specific menu for the vegan corned beef. We live an hour away in CT. My dad and I planned a day around this meal and I arranged my work schedule to work a night shift. My dad is older and immunocompromised so we were going to make a few stops and I’d run in to get takeout here as he is not comfortable sitting in a restaurant with his illnesses and the threat of covid still.
Got an early start and I called shortly after 11, right after opening. It rang and rang and went to an answering machine. Hmmm. Figured they were busy at opening so I waited a few minutes and called again. Same thing. I stopped for another errand, and tried back. Rang and rang, answering machine. I thought, maybe they had an emergency and were closed? I rechecked their facebook, they appeared to be open. I made another stop to kill some time while my dad waited in the car and he said he would try calling while I was in the store. I got back to the car to hear on speakerphone that he had indeed gotten through and this restaurant was not accepting takeout orders today and the gentleman on the phone sounded pretty crabby. I’m sure yall were busy and stressed (trust me I know, my husband is in the restaurant business. I GET it)—but we were also very disappointed potential customers coming from afar with no idea of this policy today. This news would have been helpful to post on your facebook page/make public. Maybe you could change your answering machine to “no takeout today” if you don’t want to pick up, or just not bothering to have a restaurant phone at all if it takes 8x to pick it up and there’s no takeout available with no way for the customer to know this otherwise. Someone even commented on the St Patricks’s day post and asked if they could order takeout and the restaurant commented yes so even more confusing. Sorry the 1 star isn’t based on your food I sadly couldn’t try. Really...

Read moreSomehow we missed word Vegan 🤦♀️ but we realized it by the end of ordering, still decided to stay and give it a try. None of us, 4 people, have ever tried a vegan cafe. We ordered grilled cheese, grilled cheese with bacon and turkey blt. Here are my thoughts... The whole idea of making fake meat foods is strange to me... Of course there are people who want to eat vegan food probably for the reason avoiding eating meat (!?), so why to make burgers, turkey, bacon? Make something else that does NOT remind meat and call it also differently. Anyway... we hated the food. We were ready to give it a try while not being vegan, but this was a really bad experience. "Cheese" was sour, "bacon" tasted like rotten stuff... On the bright side bread was great. Coffee was very good. People were nice, athmosphere was nice. That is why I added one star.
Since we never tried vegan meats or cheese, it is hard to say if it is suppose to taste this way. I really have no idea. However, we paid almost $80, couldn't eat much and left hungry and kind of traumatized by...
