Greeted with a very friendly staff. Host is very happy to seat us. Logan, our server is very punctual, and a very knowledgeable person. He knows the ins and outs of the whole menu. He described the dish meticulously. Ask for him when u get there.
Started with their sourdough bread accompanied with cultured vermont butter 5 stars for this because it came very hot and the butter had sea salt flakes yumm
Ordered Mexican Street Corn Ribs pickled chillies, brown butter, lime crema - although the corn is yellow it tasted pretty sweet and the pickled chillies had some spicyness that I tasted. The brown butter - I was expecting a melted brown butter but it is not ll there was much texture that I did not really love. The lime crema excellent i give this dish 4 stars
Rye Radiatori bacon bolognese- i felt that the smokyness of the bacon was too much of my liking, I was thinking of much more just a regular bacon flavor plus a bolognese sauce. Egg yolk- I was hoping was the eggyolk that’s raw and wished I mixed into the pasta. arugula, parmigiano-reggiano on top was conspicuous. If I would suggest to have the eggyolk raw on top and just mixed with the super pipping hot pasta. At lesst the pasta when it came to the table it was notably high temperature which is I love. 4 stars
Roasted Pork Collar chinese BBQ glaze,- it was not what I expected I thought it will be much more like marinated. I personally did not like the dish. I wished it was noted to the menu that there was sesame seed on top of the pickled cucumbers. It tasted five spiced- I should have asked what was the pork collar marinated from. I ordered this one because I got curious since it’s pork collar knowing it could be very very tender. It was not at all. It was tough, even struggling slicing with a knife and a fork.
In the menu printed it said it has ramp fried rice so I ordered it knowing it’s ramps(i just ordered because I was surprise there are still ramps during summer- but no ramps on the dish at all). So they said they posted online that it was a snap pea fried rice (was disappointed lacking of flavor and taste. pickled cucumbers were not crunchy at all. They also did not printed that there was sesame seeds as garnish. I have a slight sesame seed allergy. The rice that they cook was not what I expected also- I am expecting a Jasmine Rice for a fried rice. i am Filipino and I am Proud to say that I am a “Fried Rice Snob”. I did not like the texture of the rice it’s more like uncle ben’s rice. Fried rice should not be al dente: the scrambled egg is way too well done for my taste buds. I give this dish no star at all . I hardly ate it.
Smash Burger BLT thick cut heirloom tomato, bibb lettuce, bacon mayonnaise, american cheese, served with fries. The rest of my table ordered just the plain Smash Burger At least the burger is ground short rib. That’s superb!! 5 stars
Now onto the desserts Brioche Doughnuts cinnamon sugar, coffee caramel sauce - 5 Stars to die for!! All 4 of us shared the 2 doughnuts THE BEST BRIOCHE doughnuts ever!!! If I come back here for dinner I would skip it and just order 4 brioche doughnuts. It’s hard to find one in the tri state area. Telling my server Logan- last time I ate a brioche doughnuts was when I travelled to Maui, Hawaii. It came to the table pipping hot and freshly right off from the pot frying. With caramel sauce WOW!! 10 stars
Polenta Budino chocolate mousse, walnuts, smoked salt- one of a kind dessert, polenta mixed into a form of budino. Texture very smooth love the crunchyness from the walnuts and smoked salt wow different taste in my mouth. 4 stars because there was caramel
My verdict: Service and Ambiance is exceptional!! Great sunset view so make sure to get ur reservation at 530pm Food - i really like the rye radiatore(my personal pasta fave shape) Yes I would come back The Brioche Doughnuts sold me in a heart beat. I would just come for dinner and just order this in half dozen!!!
CharcoalBYOB Thank you for cooking and satisfying my food and dessert craving and celebrating my birthday today!...
Read moreI wrote a review of Charcoal years ago, the first time we ate there and we've been back over a dozen times in the years since. But this latest visit merits a new one. I think most people go to restaurants for the food, the company, the service and the ambience. Charcoal delivered 5-star food last night and we came with friends we've cherished for almost 20 years, so the company was even better than the food. But the service and ambience of this place remains a barrier to fully enjoying everything else. First, we get seated at the table we requested--with the sun shining in our faces for more than half an hour. How complicated is it for them to get some easy to open and close shades for that time of day? Second, there's nothing on the floor or walls to muffle the noise level of music, talking, kitchen activity, etc. ricocheting off the bank of windows looking out at the Delaware. Third, they play background music at far too high a volume level; even if they had on classic music it would have been too loud and they barely lowered it even after we asked our waitress three times to do so, in part because we had a speaker right above our table. Finally, we can't blame her for not getting the volume down but when four patrons order an eclectic mix of 20+ small serving portions off the menu--common sense dictates they will want/need separate plates, serving spoons, etc. for each course. We had to ask three times for that as well plus no salt and pepper shakers on the table and when the candle went out, no replacement. Then around 9, suddenly the overhead lights were turned on or up, I couldn't tell which but jarring, like seeing what's on your plate is an after-thought. Great food goes a long, long way, and Charcoal still deserves 5 stars for that--their menu is always fresh, interesting and well presented. But the folks running this place (who are also the ones working in the kitchen) don't appear to get that ambience and service ensure that great food stays great--before, during and after the meal. They've had years to address all of these issues and done nothing. This suggests that they are willing to ignore everything else (and hope patrons will as well) based on what comes out of the kitchen. And I suspect now that we're not the only customers as a result who won't be back again, at least not until they learn to get the details beyond what's on...
Read moreI've passed by charcoal a number of times and finally had the chance to dine there with my fiancee and mother. We had received recommendations from friends as well. We ordered a wide variety of items from the menu because everything sounded good and then all shared so we could each sample. The bread was delicious as was the squid. The bean salad that the squid was on was excellent! We tried 3 of the 4 pasta dishes and again, all are excellent. The table favorite seemed to be the rye radiatora (spelling?). I had ordered the cod as the main entree and my fiance ordered the fried chicken. Both were excellent but we ended up swapping meals. The banana polenta with the cod was really nice and unique (in a good way). The fried chicken was delicious. My personal preference would have been for a kosher dill pickle instead of the sweet pickles though. That is just a my personal preference. For dessert, we all got the icecream and doughnut sundae with caramel sauce. Wow! So good but the portion was huge! Not one of us could clear our dessert plate. We also tried the chocolate mousse which was excellent and the walnuts were really nice! We also had coffee which was really enjoyable. I would have loved a cappuccino, but the coffee was very good. Easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time at any restaurant in any price range. The view is amazing as well. Still not sold? Parking in Yardley can be challenging. They have a decent sized lot and the street has parking as well. Finally, the service was outstanding. We had an attentive waiter. The wait staff clearly supported each other. Just a truly excellent place to dine! We'll be back!...
