Nestled in a quiet alley of Ngo Huyen Street, in the very heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Tornado is not just a café—it’s a hidden haven for those who appreciate authenticity and calm amidst the chaos of the city.
What got me hooked here was, first and foremost, the coffee—100% pure, freshly roasted and ground in-house. In a city full of mediocre cups, this one stands out with its depth, aroma, and unmistakable authenticity. It's not just coffee; it's a quiet reminder of how good the real thing can be.
But great coffee is only part of the story. What makes Tornado truly special—and what keeps people coming back—is the warmth and generosity of Mrs. Lizzie, the owner. She welcomes every guest with genuine kindness and a big-hearted spirit that turns a simple visit into a heartfelt experience. Meet her once, and you’ll understand why this little café has such a loyal following.

Read moreTornado Cafe is a hidden gem that truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming owner, whose hospitality added so much to the experience.
The sea salt coffee was absolutely delightful – perfectly balanced with a warm, nutty aroma, no bitterness, and a rich, creamy sea salt foam that made every sip a joy. I also tried the egg cocoa, which was incredibly smooth and velvety. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare, but the freshness and flavor are worth every second.
Although the café is tucked away in an alley without a striking view, the quality of their drinks and the cozy atmosphere more than make up for it. I was particularly impressed by the attention to detail and the consistent refills of our tea – such thoughtful service is rare these days.

Read moreGot an egg coffee, wait time was like 15 min but honestly I didn’t mind the wait at all because it was such a quaint little cafe. To pass the time, the lovely owner served me some delicious tea while she whipped the egg.
The egg coffee itself was SO GOOD. So fluffy, light, and the perfect sweetness to complement the bitterness of the espresso.
The vibes of this place are immaculate. The alleyway has just the right amount of activity to people watch and not too loud so you can have a conversation or read a book with the shop’s calming music in the background.
The cafe/shop also has a cute selection of tea mugs and coffee cups for Vietnamese coffee that are handmade and very affordable ($6!). The owner is also pretty good with English. If I lived in Hanoi, I would definitely be a...
