If you're in Hoi An and you don’t stop by Madam Lau, you’re doing it wrong. This place isn’t trying to impress you with flashy decor or a trendy vibe—it's the real deal. The food? Honest, straight-up, and damn delicious.
I had the White Rose (Bánh Vạc), a dish I’d never tasted before. Little shrimp dumplings, packed with lemongrass and topped with crispy onions—it's like biting into something new yet comforting, like the food's been cooking in this town for centuries. It’s not your average dumpling, and that's what makes it special. Light, fresh, and with that perfect balance of savory and aromatic. Definitely a dish worth the trip.
Then there’s the Cao Lau. A noodle dish that defies expectations. Think Japanese-style noodles, but not like anything you’d get in Japan. The noodles themselves have a unique chew—soft yet firm, the kind that sticks with you. Toss in herbs, salad greens, bean sprouts, and you’ve got a vibrant bowl that’s like a punch to the senses. And the crispy pork? It’s the kind of crackling that makes you wish you could eat it for breakfast. A few slices of tender pork round it all off, and you’ve got a dish that tells you something about the history of this place. This isn’t just food—it’s a story, and Madam Lau’s kitchen is the storyteller.
Madam Lau doesn’t try to dazzle. It’s not about showmanship; it’s about simple, well-executed dishes that stay with you long after you've finished your last bite. Hoi An has a thousand restaurants trying to sell you a touristy version of local cuisine, but this one feels like it’s from the heart. If you want the real taste of Hoi An, make sure this spot is...
Read moreStumbled across whilst walking .Saw most tables occupied thought it was a good sign ( or people getting out of the rain ) .If you are hungry it will fill a gap , however having just come from Hue was a little disappointed especially after reading some reviews whilst waiting for our food . My dish tasted like it was knocked up in seconds as noodles were tasteless ( about half the meal ) Spring rolls on the small side and not much flavour relying on the bowl of sauce . Lastly bill PRICES ON THE MENU ARE LOWER THAN THE BILL AT THE END ....BE WARNED....Standing by my review just try another retaurant called Minh Hien , there try a dish called "braised tofu "( I'm not a veggie but my wife is so went ) ..its about 850m from night market but well worth the walk .photo attached is the braised tofu dish ,...
Read moreWe went there after arriving in hoi an on the recommendation of our hotel and were not disappointed. We ordered the local specialties such as white rose and cao Lau and some chilli shrimp. The food was fresh, tasty and at a good price. But the most special thing about this restaurant is the friendly and kind owner Khanh. After our meal he sat down to speak with us, asking questions about our travels and lives back home. We also got to hear his story and how his restaurant is fairly new. We went to see him before departing the town and had another lovely chat.
Soon he will be opening indoor seating to accommodate more customers so if you are staying in hoi an and looking for amazing food with fantastic service, do visit Madam Lau’s - meeting Khanh has been the highlight of our...
