Bánh Mì Phố Cổ 159 — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

We’ve been traveling Vietnam for 3 weeks now and this is one of the best places to get your bánh mì in Ho Chi Minh City. We had one with egg and one with chicken, both so delicious. They put lots of nicely seasoned chicken and egg and also many delicious greens like cilantro and cucumber. Also, they know how much chili (or how little) to put if you’re a westerner and are not used to eating very spicy! We also had delicious coffee and you can ask them to put a little more coffee/milk so it is to your liking. Nice seating area inside and they were so nice. I'm not an expert on bahn mi, but I've had a enough over the years to say that this particular bahn mi was just average. Got the traditional pork and crispy pork. Sure the bread was nice and crunchy and soft inside, however the filling and taste were very normal. Nothing groundbreaking or out of the ordinary. It might be considered "great" by Vietnamese standards, but it's not something I'd rush to eat every day (I actually think the bahn mi in Australia is better). We came here because of the good reviews, but it was even better than we imagined. One of the best things we've ever eaten, and definitely the best Banh Mi! We had the Hoi An pork belly, crispy pork belly and shredded chicken during our 2 trips there. The pork belly was unbelievable and the Banh Mi's were perfectly balanced! A little bonus that the drinks were also amazing, especially the Kumquat tea. The lady serving us was so kind and inviting, and remembered our spice preferences on our second visit.
