XÈO Restaurant — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

The Banh Xeo with Mushrooms and some other side dishes (Morning Glory stir fried veggies with garlic) we ordered were really good, probably not the best we ever had but unfortunately the whole experience we have had in this restaurant was, I guess one of the most dishonest and ridiculous experience we have had in our whole Vietnamese trip. We have had a great experience in general but this one in particular won't be forgotten for sure, there I don't highly recommend going to this place. It was our last day and we had a flight to return home in a couple of hours, but since we were very hungry and we wanted to have a last proper Vietnamese meal, we decided to stop by this restaurant as from the reviews it looked like it was one of the best Banh Xeo in town. As soon as we arrived, the restaurant looked great and you had the kitchen right in front of your eyes where you'd see the restaurant staff preparing the food. Once we ordered a simple Banh Xeo with Mushrooms and the morning glory salad and two Guava juice drinks, we got told by the waiter that this could delay up to 30 mins for preparing the banh xeo. And once we acknowledge and agreed with that, we also vaguely mention that in a couple of hours, we would need to go to the airport as we gotta catch our flight. The waiter said the usual "Yes, yes yes" and leave. Probably he didn't understand that but nevermind. And plus as soon as we wanted to order a second Banh Xeo, the same waiter with dark hair, told us that one could be enough for two people and two is too much. We listened him, and we ordered one instead.

Conclusion: We ended up leaving the restaurant, still hungry as one was literally the perfect size for one person, but mostly we ended up waiting 1.30 HOUR for a Banh Xeo and had to rush to the airport and luckily we didn't lose our flight and all went smoothly, but what really upset us was the cheeky face of the restaurant staff that made us pay for the Restaurant tissues and the Ice on my girlfriend drink she ordered and most importantly we didn't receive any apology from the "Manager" and staff next to him that witnessed the whole scene and our reaction to this unfairness, despite the huge and crazy delay. Only fake smiles and passive aggressive behaviours Never again. Honestly I can understand the language barrier gap, but at least saying a simple Sorry and admitting you're wrong, it's not something that requires a good level of English, just good manners and respect for your clients. We found this place on Google as a quick stop to try banh xeo, because they had xeo in their name. Our table ordered 4 banh xeo which included 2 shrimp and pork, 1 mushroom only, and 1 seafood. The waitress told us it will take 15 minutes and their menu forewarned us as well. A party of two showed up after us and sat. The first two banh xeo came out within 35 minutes, but the last two didn't. The party of two received their banh xeo before ours so I asked the waitress why did they get theirs and we didn't. She said it was a different order. How is that a different order when it's banh xeo?!!

I told her that our order should be completed before they moved onto the next. She was apologetic, and I asked her to rush the last two. It took a total of 50 minutes for 4 banh xeo! The banh xeo wasn't anything great, but it was edible.

Lastly, they had different herbs that belonged in canh chua (Vietnamese sweet sour soup) not for banh xeo. GO somewhere else if you're looking for...

We stumbled upon XÉO Restaurant – MeKong food right outside our accommodation in Saigon, and it turned out to be a fantastic find!

We ordered the beef pho, chicken with cashew nuts, rice in a clay pot, fresh herbs, coconut water, and a cold Tiger beer — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The pho broth was rich and aromatic, and the chicken cashew nut dish was perfectly cooked, with a nice balance of sweetness and crunch.

The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff were polite and attentive. It’s a great spot to enjoy authentic Mekong-style Vietnamese food at a reasonable price, especially if you’re staying nearby...
