I had heard this was the best old gaol in Australia and now I've been here, I agree. The guy at the front desk was really friendly and knew loads of stuff and certainly answered all our questions. Could have stood and chatted with him all day. We happened to be here while there was a Ned Kelly display on so that was a nice little bonus. The part of the gaol I saw - keep reading for why I had to leave🙄- was excellent. There is loads and loads of little displays of different things from shivs found in the gaol, uniforms for prisoners and guards, escape attempts , old cell doors, a height chart with various criminals heights marked. There are many familiar names throughout the prison because of Victoria's colorful history and the many tv shows. I came with my son's who are 8 and 13. Both of them got spooked early on and wouldn't let me go upstairs or beyond the main cell block because it was too dark and creepy🙈. So, definitely come and check it out, but choose your traveling party wisely😬🤣🙈.

Amazing place! Beautiful old building with some fascinating artifacts and stuff inside. I thought the articles were really interesting plus learned a bit about the history of the old place. It's funny because you look at it and the old style construction, windows without glass, super thick wood doors and all that stuff and then you realize it was still in operation in 1991 and that wasn't that long ago! Anyway, the staff were super friendly and priced perfect for a way to kill an hour or so on the weekend. The only flaw I see is it's about 90% of what it could be. I'd love to see some more support for the place so everything could be freshened up a little bit. Also I didn't see any ghosts but I did go during the day.

very interesting place. i’ve watched a lot of Rob on tiktok and you can sense his interest in the place with all the info he gives and passion and you can see it through the prison. my only suggestion would be as it’s self guided that a booklet would be handy to give info on some of the prisons who stayed in certain cells or what the rooms were used for. we visited prior to watching the videos on the place so going into one of the kitchen rooms, we were a little confused by what looked like an autopsy table. and the room where a prisoner escaped, i went into the cell and didn’t even notice. otherwise fantastically well kept place, love seeing these places kept the way they were back in the day.

This museum is a fascinating destination that offers a captivating glimpse into Australia's penal history. It allows visitors to step back in time and explore the eerie corridors and well-preserved cells of a 19th-century prison. The museum's exhibits provide valuable insights into the harsh conditions and daily life of inmates. Whether you're a history buff or simply curious about Australia's convict era, the Geelong Gaol Museum is a must-visit attraction that offers a unique and educational experience for all visitors.

This museum is one of the best place to visit if you like history and really wanted to know how hard life was years ago. Prisoners are human too and they built this jail for themselves which is now converted into museum. There are 3 different activities available there like a day tour, Then they have Ghost tour and the they have Paranormal tour starting 10PM till 12AM. Plan your day accordingly and see which tour you like to.

MUST SEE! I’m not a huge museum lover but this one is a must see! Rob has done an exceptional job of creating an experience that goes across the generations. Chopper, Ned Kelly, everything! He gave us so many insights and stories that you just can’t read in a book. I’ve learnt so much about our Australian history and will definitely come back. Thank you for making my time in Geelong so memorable!
