Tasmania trip (last minute as usual due to ever changing covid restrictions 🤦🤣). Dinner at @aurahobart - chef's menu: absolutely delicious food, with every course being very creative and full of interesting flavours! It might have been an off night, but service was a bit lackluster with a general lack of interest from the wait staff. Although I understand they might be short-staffed and overworked due to staff furlough from being exposed to covid. Overall, as the food was the main focus, I still enjoyed the dinner very much! . Cucumber, trout roe, edible succulent: such a cute little snack! The roe was nice and light, and worked well with the crunch of the cucumber and the succulent. . Shiitake mushroom crisps and saltbush: I really loved this one! The mushroom crisps were so good 🤤🤤🤤. . Stewed strawberry soup: it's sweet but also a bit savoury - very interesting flavours! . Boarfish, turnip, rhubarb and honey sauce: beautifully presented, and really delicate flavours. Good combination of textures. I'm not sure what the little crunchy seeds are on the turnip, but they really make it yummy! . Scallop Ceviche, with pumpkin, macadamia foam: wow this looked incredible, and also tasted amazing too. I loved the macadamia foam - literally tasted like eating macadamias 🤤🤤🤤. . Murray cod, squid noodles, and onion broth: the cod was nicely done! The noodles were made from squid - absolutely delicious. And that broth was very bold in flavour. . Sou vide lamb rump, mountain pepper and mushrooms: the lamp was super super tender! The mushrooms were really yummy too. The sauce was a bit on the salty side, but with the lamb, it was good. Lex felt it was too salty, but it was perfect for me, as I do like saltier foods. . Potato bread and salad: the bread was very interesting! Made from potato? Really soft. . Summer fruit salad with lemon myrtle cream: wow this dessert dish is so gorgeous! Layer upon layer of shaved rockmelon, with some watermelon inside, and in the middle of that, the lemon myrtle cream. Such creativity! . Christmas cake with crumbled meringue: I love this kind of cake, so it was delicious for me. Moist and soft! . Bottlebrush sorbet, pig's face sauce: this was a bit of a palate cleanser for right after the lamb course, and it was really delicious! We had to google what pig's face was 🧐🧐. . Blue cheese with butter marmalade and peonies (not pictured 🤦🤦): the marmalade worked really well with the blue cheese and made it less strong in taste. Good finish...
Read moreIf you're the kind of person who saves up for a once a year special dinner, unfortunately I couldn't recommend this place less. When we arrived and were seated, the service was fabulous (if inexperienced). After we received our initial order of drinks and food, the quality of service dropped off immediately. Our water was never refilled, we were never offered other drinks, despite the restaurant being under half full and watching servers clean tables and chat with the kitchen staff at leisure.
The food was delicious except for the lamb, which was the most expensive item on the menu and also the most under seasoned.
After sitting with empty plates for over 15 minutes, we did think it would be lovely to finish the evening with a desert or some cheese. However, once staff begrudgingly cleared our plates, we were never offered to view the dessert menu. It was made pretty clear by the attitude and manner of staff that they wanted us out as soon as possible, even though it was only 8:20PM. At that point we wanted to be gone as well ane just ended up going through the maccas drive thru for ice cream desserts.
The view may have made up for it if, in this near empty restaurant, we have been seated anywhere near a window.
For 2 people, the pleasure of this experience cost us $139. If you're considering this location as a rare, expensive treat for a loved one, please. Consider literally anywhere else. You will be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Aura in Hobart, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, the ambiance was captivating, radiating an elegant and sophisticated aura. What an unforgettable evening!
The menu has a really stunning array of culinary delights that showcase both creativity and culinary expertise. Each dish was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The chef's attention to detail was evident in every bite. I was particularly impressed with the freshness of the ingredients and the harmonious combinations of flavors!
Just a small advice to the team at Aura - The guy wearing glasses and suit who took our order, he didn’t know anything about the menu or the food. Being a vegetarian, I asked him for recommendations but he just went recited the entire vegetarian menu. A little improvement to the service could go a long way.
If you're seeking a remarkable dining experience that will leave a lasting impression, you MUST visit Aura. I cannot recommend it highly enough and can’t wait to revisit this culinary gem. Kudos...
