After booking a table for 6:30 tonight, we were disappointed from the moment we got out of the lift. There is no clear signage to indicate there are actually two eateries on the fourth floor, so we went to the first counter. After being greeted quickly we then had to wait for a waiter to tell us that we actually had to go out to the other counter on the deck. We then waited again while the one poor staff member served the line of people waiting before us. I understand it is Monday night, however for the amount of people dining I would expect there to be some help available for the staff member. After waiting 10 minutes we were shown to a dirty table that the staff member had to clean for us. As we had booked I assumed we'd have a table ready, but when there is just one staff member on it makes it hard for them to do everything. Your staff member by the way was doing an excellent job for the circumstances.
Once we ordered food there was a normal wait time for our dinner to arrive, however no cutlery was supplied and there were no napkins on the table. After asking the staff member at the bar for cutlery, I was pointed to a station with napkins and a drawer of cutlery, something I would expect at McDonalds or Banjo's, not a "classy" venue.
To say our food was inedible would be doing it justice. The only thing that was any good were the chips. We had ordered a bacon and cheese burger and a buttermilk chicken burger. The bacon and cheeseburger was dry and looked like the burger had been cooked during prep and left under a heat lamp and the bun was dry. My partner described it as just average. I however had the worst chicken burger I have ever eaten. To start the bun was burnt and dry, but nothing compared to the thing that was supposed to be chicken. While it looked appetising, it tasted like the buttermilk was sour and the chicken had been cooked yesterday and reheated. I can count the amount of times I have left food on my plate at restaurants, and this was one of them. I am fully expecting to have an upset stomach tonight as I am positive either the chicken or the buttermilk were off.
For a brand that has such a good reputation in other states, I don't believe the Crown restaurants will ever compete with other local venues. I would have been better to spend my money at Mr Burger down stairs. I am extremely...
Read moreI dined here on Wednesday evening 4th November and I found it most underwhelming. There were 2 of us 'locals' and 3 visitors from Launceston who will no doubt return north with the impression of "Well that was ordinary!" First of all the bar service was non-existent. The bar prices are a bit over the top and the presentation was poor. Then when it came time to order the meals there was nobody to be seen again! The meal prices are at the top end but the food doesn't deserve them. Anyway, 4 of the meals came out fast! So fast we suspected they were already prepared and sitting there waiting to go. I reckon we are right because I had a Fisherman's Basket and it was overcooked and dry. The 5th meal was slow. So slow the rest of us had virtually finished when the bar person had finally returned so we could tell her. She came and surveyed our table, giving it the up and down, which gave us the impression she didn't believe us and maybe we were trying to gain an extra meal. Anyway after she confirmed we actually were one short the explanation was "It's in the oven now." No apology, no kiss my arse, nothing! She just walked off. I don't think this place deserves patronage at the prices they charge. They need to improve their staff, their menu, their quality and their pricing. Other than that they're perfect! Enjoy! But seriously, if you're looking for somewhere to eat in the CBD, there's no shortage of choice so I definitely recommend you go somewhere else. Cheers! PS I had to give them 1 star to make the 'Post' button activate. Pity...
Read moreSuch a shame as the venue is amazing. It has the potential to be one of the best bar/restaurants in Hobart, yet the food ensures the experience is a negative one. We ordered two drinks, three arrived and the waiter insisted we ordered three (there was two of us sitting there?) Our waitress was lovely yet not very informative. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I’m sure she was new. Our food was overpriced for what we received. The steak was over cooked, drowned in sauce and served with three small potatoes. Even our waitress suggested we order a $12 bowl of chips with the steak as there was nothing served with it. By far, the worst thing we received was the cheese plate. Our waitress said it came with 5 pieces of cheese, heaps of bread and crackers and fruit and nuts would be scattered over the plate. This was not the case. Three cheeses arrived (albeit, great cheeses) ONE piece of bread and four crackers. This was after we had asked if it would feed the 5 of us if we would just pick at it.
I could go on, I’m just tired because I had to stop up McDonalds on the way home for a proper meal.
Would...
