I visited Monopoly Dreams in March 2025 with four friends for an afternoon of fun. It’s conveniently located on the lowest level of Melbourne Central, right in the heart of the city and surrounded by plenty of other activities. Perfect for a dreary day when you’re looking for something indoors. While parking is limited, there are lots of nearby parking structures, and Melbourne Central is easily accessible by public transport.
Tickets were around $50 each, and we kicked things off in a faux elevator that took us down to the Monopoly showroom. This was a personal highlight, seeing all the different editions of Monopoly, including some I never even knew existed, was fascinating. The showroom doubled as a waiting area before we were taken into the 4D cinema. The short film was clearly aimed at kids, but it had cute visual effects, and our group couldn’t help but giggle along and enjoy the ride.
From there, we received our stamp cards and entered the main interactive section. There were themed rooms, props, and games throughout the space, as well as a photo booth where you could use tokens to snap and print photos. We gave everything a go and even though a few games were a bit faulty or underwhelming, we made the most of it and had a lot of laughs dressing up for the photo opportunities.
The carnival area was another fun touch, with little prizes up for grabs. One of our friends won a keyring, while the rest of us weren’t so lucky. Still, we enjoyed exploring the space, which featured creative Monopoly themed setups like a tram, a news stand, and a quirky storage room. We finished up at the gift shop, which was packed with Monopoly merchandise. While we didn’t buy anything (prices were on the higher side), it’s a dream for any die hard Monopoly fan with some really cool items on offer.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience more for the company I was with than the attraction itself. It’s definitely a one and done type of visit, unless you’re a Monopoly fanatic or have kids who’d want to come back. That said, I’m glad I went and got to check it out. The staff were lovely, always happy to help and take photos, and they really added to the experience by guiding people through the...
Read moreMy 11yo son and I were really excited to come to Monopoly Dreams but we found it quite underwhelming. While it starts off well, once you get past the introductory scene, it feels very tired, understaffed and poorly maintained. The photo booths were out of order, as were the game machines that are meant to print out tokens that you can supposedly use to claim for something? One of the machines that prints out your personalised Monopoly ‘property deed’ was broken too. Also, they give you the impression that you can put your Monopoly money towards buying items at the cafe and the retail shop but this is no longer the case. The staff seem to be few and far between so it’s hard to find anyone if you have a question (of which we had a few because it wasn’t very well explained at the outset how it all worked). The few staff we did mange to track down inside the attraction seemed very jaded. Judging by some of the things they said, and their general demeanour, I got the distinct impression they’re not very well supported by the company. This seemed a shame because they did generally seem to be nice people, you just got the vibe that they were fed up with things being broken, the place being understaffed and policies being changed (eg. the cashing in of tokens).
The cafe is also a sad, lonely place where the workers are more interested in talking among themselves than serving customers (we had to wait 20 mins for a banana bread to be toasted because they forgot us, despite the fact that there was almost no one else there).
All that aside, there were some fun things. The lift at the start was fun (but gave a false sense of expectation), the movie theatre was a highlight, and the flying money booths were great. Some of the computer games were also fun but the rest was pretty average - including the laser maze, which was one of the things we were most looking forward to (my son figured out how to ‘game the system’ almost immediately).
My son’s birthday is coming up and I was hoping to have his party there but I asked him at the end if he wanted to do that and he said “no way”! Straight out of the mouth of an 11yo who loves Monopoly - that pretty much summed...

Did my 5 year old daughter have fun? 100% would she want to go again.. oh yes but let’s get down to the nitty gritty shall we?
The fit out looks great but looking around there are a few missed opportunities. Firstly with ticketing, there is only one opportunity to play each game per ticket, for my daughter she was lucky that I was willing to give her my ticket and she was also able to use her dad’s ticket as well as her own. I found with some games, the timer would run out just as you figured out how to play. It would be useful to have a 10 second game trial as you only have one opportunity to score points.
During the week they could offer a higher priced “2-3 hour unlimited play” pass option with a $10 voucher cap at the store. Normal tickets only offer a $5 voucher cap to be spent in the shop. QR ticket codes could be added to phone wallet or an app instead so you are able to see your points accrue as you are not able to keep track of player points currently unless you write them down. Alternatively a point summary can be emailed to players at the end so groups of friends/family can have some healthy competition.
As the facility is still relatively new, I was surprised to see so many games “closed for maintenance” or damaged already. The waterworks game had not worked properly when we had played on one occasion but there was enough staff around to help us rectify this issue allowing us to play on another machine.
While we’re on the topic of staff, all the staff were really friendly and willing to help with any queries. It just so happened that on the day we had visited, I new system was being implemented that garnered some teething issues.
All in all, I can see a great deal of thought and money has been spent on the fit outs, there are a number of different games here that are fun for all ages and beginner-intermediate skill levels. My partner and I had a great time watching our daughter enjoy herself but we don’t feel the need to come again during our next visit...
