Heritage listed. Once served as a sewer vent, hence the rather "piss-take" colloquial name Thornton's Scent Bottle. According to information available from various sources, it was modelled on Cleopatra's Needle on the River Thames in London. Thus a very distinctive Victorian Egyptian style obelisque. It's smacked right at the junction of Bathurst and Elizabeth Street, near Hyde Park....

Not enough detail on how the Illuminati infiltrated Sydney's very own Hyde Park. They did leave in place this curious obelisk so the hunt is afoot! Beautiful scenery next to Hyde Park if you don't mind the noise that comes from the busses. If you're ever out drinking in town don't pass out here as the cops will be on you like moths to a light.
