Read moreThe Redfern Convenience Store looks like any other store from the outside, but venture inside and you are welcomed with a magical and amazing array of sweets and other hard to find goods that you probably haven't seen since your childhood (especially if you are an expat from the USA/Canada/UK).
For example, you'll casually see a row of Big League Chew occupying it's neat place on display. All of your childhood cereals; Lucky Charms, etc, are here, including all the dizzying variations that you haven't seen or knew about.
Drinks are another hidden treasure trove here. You can find Coke made with real sugar here, the original recipe.
This place is a hidden oasis of sweets, lollies and other curious goods. From the outside, it may look like any other place, but venture inside and a careful look will have you finding gems such as marshmello fluff, all the variations of Snickers protein bars, the extremely hard to find Lacroix range of drinks, flavours of Oreos you never knew about and much more.
You cannot mention Redfern Convenience Store without mentioning the King of Sweets himself, Hazem is the equivalent of 1/2 parts Willy Wonka and 1/2 Parts Santa Claus. If you are lucky and the store is not busy, he may give you a guided tour of the shop and it's contents. It's very clear that Hazem has a passion for what he sells and that he cares about the people who come in. Many people travel hours from far away to visit and stock up on hard to find goodies from their childhood. It's very easy to spend $100 here, with many visitors spending $300-$500, as they are shopping for friends, family members and colleagues. The amazing thing is, it's money well spent, with no regrets.
I would personally describe Redfern Convenience Store as the Happiest Place on Earth, and definitely, hands down, the Greatest Convenience...
Read moreI have purchased three times from this business. First time - next day delivery, all good. Second time - next day delivery, 2 items not as requested, but I let it go as I liked them anyway. Last week my colleague & I placed a joint order for $130. 7 days later nothing delivered and no word on delivery, so we called to enquire & the owner advised that it was picked up as an 'express' delivery but was sitting at the courier depot (?). Yesterday it turned up and the box was so hot even the cereal box enclosed was hot to touch. Of course this meant that the 4 large chocolate bars inside were liquified. The owners response to this was that their conditions state that they don't take responsibility for chocolate orders and that is why they use an 'express shipping company' for delivery. How is 8 day delivery from 2 suburbs away 'express' when it is literally a 5 minute drive??? I imagine that box was traveling all over Sydney in the back of the courier truck for a week. If you are going to transport perishable goods as part of your business, you need to ensure that the courier is going to deliver promptly (especially when people are paying $20 for delivery from 2 suburbs away). So, for us - $26 of chocolate in the bin. The owner offered 15% off our next order for the inconvenience. Funny that he thinks that there will be a...
