I was incredibly disappointed with Rendez-vous Bistro. Indian food is my favorite cuisine, and this was the very first restaurant I visited upon arriving in Montreal. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the very beginning.

Our waitress seated us, then left us waiting 20 minutes before asking if we wanted cocktails. After placing the order, we waited another 20 minutes before she returned to take our dinner order, and yet another 20 minutes before the cocktails finally arrived.

While we were waiting, we overheard a nearby table of women complaining that their food was far too salty, and the owner rushed outside to address their concerns. When our meals arrived, they looked beautiful—but had the opposite problem. They contained no seasoning at all. The dishes were bland, one-note, and completely lacking in flavor.

Normally, this would be an easy fix with a little salt, but our waitress never came back to check on us. She didn’t ask if we wanted another round of cocktails (which we did), she never refilled our water, and she never provided the salt we needed to make the food edible. The lack of attention left us sitting there with both bland food and empty glasses.

To make matters worse, when we were finally ready to leave, she didn’t even bring us the bill. We had to go inside to pay ourselves. She never apologized, never thanked us, and seemed entirely uninterested in providing basic service.

The food presentation was beautiful, and I believe that if the dishes had been properly seasoned—and if we had been given a competent server—this could have been a 5-star experience. Instead, it ended up being one of the most disappointing meals I’ve had, and sadly, I cannot recommend...
