Guatapé Free Walking Tour — Attraction in Guatapé

Had a wonderful time on this walking tour with Beatriz!! Her passion for sharing the history and culture of Guatape were evident during the tour. She was very knowledgeable about the area and added in personal recollections to her storytelling based on her experiences growing up here. We learned so much about the area: its agricultural origins, the creation of the lakes and the resulting protests and displacements of communities, and the importance of the zócalos in their renewal of the economy in Guatape. I cannot recommend this experience enough. Also, make the conscious choice to SKIP the day tour to Guatape from Medellin and instead spend a night or two in the town, if time allows. This is the ONLY tour that is based in Guatape, given by LOCALS of the area. Very good experience(s)! We booked a tour to the cascades with Astrid this morning which was wonderful. She was very patient and helpful with us on the hike and made the walk exceptionally interesting by telling us all about the history and geography of the area. On our return, we followed up with the free walking tour with Gabriel who was equally knowledgeable and filled us in with many complementary details as well as showing us some of highlights of town we had walked by without noticing and pointing out an abundance of beautiful and historic zocalos. Highly recommended! We took the zocalos city walking tour and it was amazing! This is a must do when visiting Guatape. I really appreciated the love and passion that these lovely ladies have for their community and their heritage. We also took the Cafeteros tour, this is a hiking tour and it was filled with stunning scenery. We learned so much about the coffee process, but most of all we made new friends at the coffee farm.
