This place is so peaceful. I highly recommend you to visit this place. Totally worthy place. The architecture is so good. Will definately visit the church again someday.
A sense of tranquility and warmth is the ambience one feels when entering into this historic church. Byzantine and Romanesque architecture at its finest! I visited this amazing Catholic Church in February 2019 .It was a Sunday and just after Sunday Mass I was able to enter and visit. Immediately upon entering I was overwhelmed with the enormity of the interior! There are sculptures and decorative designs with frescoes like the one of the Moslem painter, Nicolas Untersteller. The church is actually consisted of three parts, with the tower being the most prominent. The stupendous façade is unbelievably grand. The central steeple is absolutely breathtaking! This may be a 1930s structure but the original church dates back to 11th century! If you're around arrondissement 16th, this is a must visit. Must visit this place . If you want to find peace go there ..... The...
The church is located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris on Avenue Marceau. Its history dates back to the 11th century, when a small chapel dedicated to St Peter stood on the hill of Chaillot. In the 16th century, the village of Chaillot, then still outside Paris, became a place of pilgrimage thanks to the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. A new church was built in 1656, but by the 18th century it had fallen into disrepair.
In the 1870s, the Chaillot neighbourhood became part of the city. The old church was demolished and a new church was built in its place between 1931 and 1938. The architect Emile Boileau designed the building in Neo-Byzantine style. The facade is decorated with two high towers, and the interior combines classical and modern elements. Inside you can see mosaics, stained glass windows and sculptures created by famous masters of the 20th century.
In the 20th century, the church became an important spiritual centre for the inhabitants of the district. In 1974 it was visited by Pope Paul VI, and in the 1980s Princess Diana, who lived nearby, was a frequent visitor.
Today the church remains active. Masses, sacred music concerts and cultural events are held here.
The church has appeared in films, for example in "Taxi 2" ...... I believe that the construction of the church took into account both Masonic symbolism and some magical...
