I normally do not write reviews but my experience at the Berlin Dungeons was so bad that I genuinely hope that this review will deter other tourist from visiting the place and spend their money on something more worthwhile.
To give a bit of context, I have been to other Dungeons before and knew more or less what to expect. However, the Berlin Dungeon was truly disappointing.
Group Sizes: the group me and my partner were taken in was far too big for the tour and rooms. Quite often there wasn't enough space, we had people standing in front of us because there wasn't room anymore to spread out and thus couldn't see anything.
Themes: The place claims to run you through the gruesome and violent history of Berlin. I was born and grew up in Berlin and have lived here more than 20 years and know it's diverse and often brutal history. However, the Berlin Dungeon has not captured any of this. The themes seem to have been selected arbitrarily and have almost nothing to do with the city's rich violent history. You do not learn anything about the dark parts of Berlin's past. They try to compensate this lack of actual history by repetitively appearing a few centimeters in front of your face after turning off and on all the lights and making jokes. It rather feels like a comedy show than a dungeon.
Actors: We attended the English tour which is offered twice a day but some of the actors seemed to forget that and started talking in German to us and needed to be reminded that this was the English tour. Some of the background narratives are also exclusively in German and you won't understand them unless you speak the language.
Value for money: The entire tour lastet less than 45 minutes and it felt like toward the end we were rushed out of the premises. We passed by two sets / stages that looked like they had been prepared for individual performances but we didn't even stop. They also advertise on their flyer, website and posters attractions which are not even part of the tour. Like the free-fall tower which appears on all their posters - and which for example you get in Hamburg and other Dungeons - but not in Berlin. So why put it on all their local advertisement material when you do not have it in Berlin?
Other things: There are no lockers anywhere to leave your things. We made the mistake to visit the Dungeons in Winter and with a small backpack and ended up carrying around our winter jackets and bag in our hands the entire time. You can't wear them because it will get too hot inside and there's not enough space to wear the backpack on your back.
Overall, this was a complete waste of money at a place that seemed to be designed to funnel trough as many paying tourist in the shortest amount of time possible and not actually sharing with them any of the many interesting and dark...
Read moreThis is the wrost show I have ever seen ever. They charge €20 per adult and the only thing they do is sprinkle some water on your face, the actors change position in the room while the room is dark and the chairs shake a little. That's the only strategy they use to scare you. The costumes are really cheap, the settings are extremely fake, there is very little action and the stories are like "whatever" because you get so disappointed that you stop caring about the entire show. The whole thing is just a big waste of money. Trust me. By the time you get out, you will regret that you went in. I will highly recommend you to grab those €20 and go to the plaza across the street and have a nice meal and a large beer and you will still have €5 left in your pocket. You will definitely enjoy that more than this show. THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. DO NOT GO IN. I know it looks tempting because they advertise it everywhere so you might think "it has to be good for sure". Totally the opposite. If you like to waste your money and be disappointed, go ahead. When you get out, come here to Google local reviews and verify my what I'm saying so other people don't waste their precious traveling money on such a low quality show. I will value this show to a max of €5 per person and that will be too expensive. €20 is a total scam for what you get. I hope this helps you make your...
Read moreEnglish tour is 3 times per day. Instruction was a bit confusing at first. We, together with other foreigners, were a bit unsure where to line up, but it went fine in the end. Important to note that it doesn't matter how early you are, as long as you are on time. You'll be moving from room to room in small groups. Some rooms have seats, but of course the order in which you're moving is always different. Good thing the groups are small, so you can always see the performance. Rooms are very well done, atmospheric and nice feeling. Wouldn't mind spending more time exploring them. It's basically a haunted house thing with narration. The stories are okay, sometimes scary, sometimes funny. Most of them based on true stories I guess, but I feel they could be explained a bit more in-depth. Anyway, it's not a museum. There's also some interaction, which was nice. Performances were good. Also, we bought priority entrance tickets, but I'm not sure if it matters at all, unless it gets really crowded (if you have a normal ticket, better be early). In our case everybody got in. At the end of the journey there's a free-fall thingy and you can buy a photo of your face afterwards for 10 euro. There's also an exclusive shop with themed merchandise, but none of that seemed too exciting. Overall we enjoyed...
