As in most of the Greek archeological sites, Olympia is mainly an area where you can find a map of the ancient city: stones, brics and parts of columns give you the idea of the buildings on the horizontal plan but you cannot have a three dimensional view of them. Using the 3D glasses and the virtual reality, magically you can understand where you are, what was and what was done there. Possibly in Italy or in Turkey this would be just a "nice to have" tool, since most of the archeological sites are almost intact, but in Greece, at least in Olympia and in Delos if it was available, the Olympia back in time glasses are a must, for kids and adults. Highly recommended, without them I suppose most of the visitors would be disappointed by the visit and would appreciate only the museum, which is clearly enjoiable in itself. I would recommend also the Back in Time initiative to arrange the same tool for the other Greek...
Read moreI would recommend anybody who is visit the Archaeological Site of Olympia to go for the VR experience. My partner and myself (both nearly 30) enjoyed it so so much. Definitely a highlight of our trip.
You really see what the Site used to look like and what they used to do there. It is super interactive and you learn lots. You are guided through the Archaeological Site of Olympia in a simple and educational fun way. You learn loads but there is no information overload.
Definitely would recommend this to everybody, young and/or old and anything in between. I am 100% sure that my experience of the Archaeological Site of Olympia would have been very different without the VR glasses (not in a positive way). #
If you are visiting the Archaeological Site of Olympia this is a must!
If they would offer this at any other Archaeological Sites, I would happily pay and use it every...
Read moreGreat experience, highly recommended. Technology not perfect yet so a bit of fiddling during the site tour to set your actual GPS location now and then is to be expected. English voice over is good, German narration is quite horrible. They expect to get this improved soon. The VR visuals of the buildings and site as it used to be are so stunning that I started to feel sorry for the other people that just looked at the plain stones. My son, 12, loved it, too! Make sure to select all the extra options in the VR menu while you walk around. The scene about the Olympic fire at the temple of Hera gave me chills. Very affordable and worth every cent! You pick of the VR glasses in Olympia town opposite the main church. From there it's about a 10 minute walk through the main street to the archeological site. The owners are very nice and open to suggestions for...
