After its construction in the middle of the 6th century BCE, until around 350 BCE when the Echo Stoa was built with the role of separating the sacred from the profane, the stadium was twice moved to the east and remade. On the left, northern side, the slope offered a natural place for observation, but benches were also placed, the capacity of the stadium reaching 45,000 spectators. At the ends of the stadium, in the picture, were marked with rows of white stones, the start and finish lines, respectively 192.27 meters between them, the running track having dimensions of 212.54 meters long and 30-40 m wide. In the middle of the southern side is the "stand" of the referees and important persons. Beyond the stadium, to the south, was the hippodrome, unexplored The guide draws our attention to the stone trough through which the much-needed water flowed to quench the thirst of athletes and spectators.

I am so glad I got to see this amazing ancient stadium on our tour through Princess Cruises. This is a must see it's amazing the architecture and the sheer size of this ancient Olympic stadium. The stadium is designed to hold 45k but much more primitive than stadiums today. This stadium had a dirt surface and marble start and finish blocks. Seating consisted of sloped grass hills on the sides for the attendees to sit and watch the games. Walking through the arched entrance to the ancient stadium is amazing and you almost feel like your back in day of the games.

The Ancient Stadium of Olympia: The stadium of Ancient Olympia was a holy place for the ancient Greeks, where all the sports activities were held dedicated to the god Zeus. Originally, the stadium was constructed in such a manner that spectators could view the events from the slopes of Mount Cronion. But the stadium was gradually moved further east, and eventually, it was placed outside the temple of Zeus.

It is not what you expect ... and that surprise adds even more intrigue, interest, and excitement. You can walk through the entry gate, like all the Olympic participants did 2500 years ago. You can place your foot on the starting line right where the athletes did as they competed for the glory of their respective city-states, for their personal pride, and potential fame. How cool is that?

The Stadium is the actual place where the athletes competed during the Ancient Olympic Games, starting more than 2700 years ago. Challenge yourself with a long run on the stadium or imagine yourself cheering (gentlemen) or lighting the Olympic flame (ladies). Beware of the heat! Even in early June, the stadium was baking hot, more than 35 degrees Celsius.

A great experience in experiencing the world of ancient Greece. We found the outdoor area to be interesting to see, but we thought the museum offered a more educational and thought provoking experience. On the very warm day that we visited the museum's air conditioning was a welcome respite. The tram from Katakalon was efficient and inexpensive.
