I stayed at NH for a week due to a pre-arranged tour. I wouldn't stay again if I had a choice.
The rooms are badly in need of renovation. We were first assigned 722 and it smelled absolutely terrible. Like cigars, smoke, etc. It was strong and no amount of air freshener sprayed by the housekeeping would make it go away. I requested a transfer. Our second room 622 was better, it didn't have a smell and the bed was very comfortable. On day 3, I joined a different room, Room 616 which also faintly smelled of smoke (but not like 722). Your nose gets used to it. Room 616's door didn't close all the way so you need to triple check it. The shower leaks into the bedroom which we complained about and they fixed. For all 3 rooms - the housekeeping does an OK job of keeping it clean but it is not spotless. There are dust bunnies in the corners and under the bed. Needless to say, these rooms really need repair.
The service - Tibor and Tamara were amazing. They were helpful and patient and friendly when we were raising the issues with the rooms. They listened to our concerns and acted promptly. We really felt like they cared and we were very appreciative for their help. All the stars in this rating are actually for them.
Location - This is a nice location, albeit far from Vorosmarty Ter and St. Stephen's Basilica (which is where we spent a lot of our time). But being that budapest is small, those places are accessible thru public transport, a nice leisurely long walk or taxi. The area after dark it is quiet but still safe to walk around. It seems more an area for locals than tourists. We discovered some nice small coffeeshops in the area that seem frequented more by locals than tourists.
Breakfast Buffet - We ate the same buffet for 7 days. The selection was the same every day. By Day 4 i was pretty tired of it. But The food spread is pretty large - there is something here for everyone. It's worth it to get the buffet on busy days so you don't have to think of...
To start on the positives, the location is very good, behind a theatre, close to the river, and not far from many chic cafés that are great for breakfast. Also, the room is a good size and functional.
Now for the negatives: the mattresses feel cheap and too firm, the room looks a little tired/dated, and there's a very slight mustiness and smell of tobacco in the hotel and room, just enough to make my nose a bit stuffy. However, the biggest issue is the cleanliness of the floor, and the attitude to fixing it. As shown in the video, just wiping a small patch of floor with a moist tissue will result in a dirty, gross tissue. Your socks or feet will be gross just walking once across the floor. Who knows what never got mopped up - because it clearly hasn't been mopped in weeks or months. Worse still, is that I went down the next morning to ask them to get housekeeping to mop the floor. They replied "oh, we're a Green-certified hotel, it won't be done until tomorrow/check-out". Well, if it had actually been done before check-in, I wouldn't be asking. I pointed out that I wasn't the one who made it dirty, she just said that she'd ask housekeeping.
We get back in the evening, the beds have been made, towels changed... but floor just as dirty as before. Are housekeeping not provided mops or a floor cleaner machine?! As an aside, I admit that many hotels lately seem to be lazy and gross, this isn't an exception, although this floor is even dirtier than other places I've stayed. It's why I often prefer hotels with carpets - at least they get vacuumed. Hotels seem to think they can go with hard floors so save carpet-cleaning and replacement costs, but then skip on mopping/floor cleaners, it's so lazy and gross. And to hear them put it under "being green" is just a greenwashing excuse for...
Read moreI recently had an amazing stay at NH hotel in Budapest and I cannot recommend it enough! From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service that lasted throughout my entire stay.
The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-equipped with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the linens were soft and luxurious. I particularly appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities, which made mornings that much more enjoyable.
The hotel's location is also perfect for anyone looking to explore the city. It's located in the heart of Budapest, close to all the major tourist attractions, restaurants, and shops. I was able to walk to most of the places I wanted to visit, which was incredibly convenient.
In addition to the great location and comfortable rooms, the staff at NH hotel really made my stay special. They were friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that I had a great experience. Whether it was providing recommendations for places to visit or helping me with my luggage, they were always happy to help.
