Babka Budapest is an absolute gem for anyone craving authentic, handcrafted baked goods with a creative twist. From their legendary cinnamon babka to flaky croissants and savory sourdough, every bite feels like a celebration of quality ingredients and passion.

FOOD (5/5): An absolute paradise for pastry lovers! Their signature chocolate babka is legendary – perfectly moist with rich, decadent swirls. The almond croissants are flaky perfection, and the sourdough bread has that ideal chewy crust and tangy interior. Everything is made with high-quality ingredients and obvious passion.

SERVICE (5/5): The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly proud of their craft. Even during busy times, they take time to explain their baking process or recommend treats. Orders are handled efficiently, and the coffee is served with care.

ATMOSPHERE (4.5/5): Cozy and inviting with a minimalist, modern aesthetic. The small seating area is charming, though it can get crowded. The open kitchen lets you watch the bakers at work, adding to the authentic artisan vibe. The smell of fresh bread and pastries is intoxicating!

PRICE (Very Reasonable): • Pastries: 1,200-1,800 HUF (€3-4.50) • Sourdough loaf: 2,500-3,500 HUF (€6-8.50) • Coffee: 800-1,200 HUF (€2-3) • Typical visit: 2,500-5,000 HUF (€6-12) per person BONUS:

Instagram-worthy pastries that taste as good as they look

Seasonal specials that are always creative and delicious

Great coffee pairings

Perfect for: Breakfast on the go, a sweet treat, or picking up a loaf of exceptional bread. One of Budapest’s best bakeries – worth every calorie!

Tip: Arrive early for the best selection, as popular items...

I am very sorry to write this review, but our experience was quite bad. Food was great, no complaints about that. But the service?! I have never experienced this in any restaurant before. I understand restaurants wanna make money, but this was too much. We had a timeslot between 6-8pm then on of my friend was running a bit late because of her baby, but arrived around 7pm. She ordered her main, but she could not finish it. At 7.45 pm the waitress informed us that we have 15 mins left, then I quickly ordered a Babka- which I really wanted to try- but could not finish that either and my cocktail either. They could not provide space at the bar either, even though I already flagged it to them-when booking the table- we highly likely would like to stay later than 8p.m. And we were consuming. I understand restaurants do not want to accommodate people not consuming, but please- at least let us finish our food. So we had to leave the food and drink there as the next table was already there at 8.01. pm. I understand that they do not wanna host people for hours, but when we book (5 of us) a table and leave there a big chunk of money, I expect they allow me to finish my meal/drink or provide space at the bar. Or calculate with extra 30mins, or something, but I think it is absolutely an unacceptable concept and terrible...

I was genuinely disappointed with my visit here. I came with a few friends specifically to sit outside, enjoy the nice weather, have a drink, and relax. Naturally, I assumed that like most places, smoking would be allowed at the outdoor tables—especially since it’s an open-air patio with decent spacing between tables.

To my surprise, shortly after lighting a cigarette, a staff member came over and very firmly told me that smoking was not allowed anywhere on the terrace. No signs, no heads-up when we asked to sit outside—just a sudden, strict rule that completely ruined the vibe. I respect non-smoking policies indoors, of course, but banning smoking outside just feels excessive and a bit out of touch, especially when there’s no separate designated smoking area either.

For a place that markets itself as a chill, welcoming restaurant, this policy sends the opposite message. It felt more like being policed than being served. If you’re a smoker, or even just someone who enjoys the option of having a cigarette with your drink or after your meal, this is not the place for you.

We cut our evening short and won’t be coming back. Plenty of other spots in the area that know how to balance comfort for all their customers without going overboard with...

*** Friendly staff, but INSANELY OVERPRICED *** So a couple of things, both good and bad: - The service was great, the waiters were very friendly and the food arrived quickly. The place is also dog friendly and we got a water bowl for our dog as well - but I guess this is normal for a dog friendly restaurant. - The muhammara tasted great, we tried many Lenanese/middle eastern restaurants in the city and I have to say that the muhammara here is the second best. An impressive achievement! - I was very surprised by the price of the lemonades. I was accustomed to paying around 1500 HUF for a 0,5L lemonade in other restaurants, so I was shocked to learn that here they cost 2,300 HUF, for a mere 0,3L size. This ruined some of the positives that the restaurant had going for it. - The portions of the main courses are also very small, a small mezze size (I had the beef cheeks and my wife had the halloumi cheese). If I’m paying for a main dish, then I want it to be more than just a small mezze - this was also a big disappointment. - Otherwise the main dishes tasted pretty good. Overall we left disappointed because we felt ripped off and will probably not return again for a second meal.

We had an absolutely beautiful food experience at Babka today. We’re lovers of the Middle Eastern cuisine so we were looking forward to this and fair to say it now ranks high on our list. First, the place has a great relaxed vibe and a nice interior, with vintage decor elements, which we loved. The service was attentive, the staff are lovely and gave recommendations and options, so kudos goes to our server Tomi. There was no pretentiousness, nothing. And the food was clearly a highlight. We chose the shakhuka and the meatball lunch deals. The cold pistachio and passion fruit soup was an absolute delight, the pink beetroot feta and hummus platter had excellently balanced, accompanied by a tasty shakhuka and a flavourbomb meatball with a heavenly labneh base. The dessert was a coconut milk rice pudding which wasn’t sweet so it nicely cleansed our palates. The price for 2 meals and 2 mocktails was just over £30 which for this quality food was an absolute bargain and we were totally full when we finished. Thank you for this experience, Babka is a highly recommended place to try and one to return to.

This is one of the restaurants that I strongly recommend from Budapest. Their food is wonderful and a going out here is an experience on its own. The restaurant is located in one of the finest neighbourhoods of the city, in a quiet old area, close to the Danube shore. They have outside seating and sitting on the sidewalk terrace is a great experience on a sunny warm day. Their menu is very diverse and the food is one of the tastiest I've ever had. They have multiple vegetarian and gluten-free options. My favorite is the skinny shaksuka with extra goat cheese, the dukkah chips and the lentil soup, but they also have fish, meat and tasty salads. Their drinks are also wonderful. They serve cocktails and mocktails. Make sure to try them all. I also can't stop recommending the flourless French cake dessert: it's just out of this world. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the place is decorated with antiques and it has a cozy and warm feel. You can pay by card and cash and they also have a small shop online. Overall it's definitely one of my favourite places in Budapest!
