Quite reasonable price (900 ISK, discount for age under 18 and over 66) for public outdoor swimming pool And it opens from 6:45 to 21:00 on weekdays 9:00 to 18:30 on weekend So it would be excellent for both Akureyri citizens and tourists.
Two hot spa 38°C & 43°C each (quite cozy, max. 8 people) for the elder One cold bath (maybe 4°C?) tube for 2 persons One steam bath (wet sauna, also cozy) Huge slides for the younger Kid zone (extremely swallow pool for infants) And also 25m lanes for swimming Everything is in there So All you have to do is taking your swimsuits and towel (Rental is charged for 800 ISK for each, Entrance with both rental swimsuits and towel is 2000 ISK)
One last thing you must remember: The special coin given from the reception is used for only one locking. So if you once open your locker after the 1st locking, you cannot lock it again since the coin is used (I went to the reception back for asking another one) So take all your necessities including shower tools (open shelves in the shower place) Remember - One coin for one chance
P.S. After I went to the whale watching tour in Dalvik, I was really exhausted and worn out. It was completely by chance going this pool because I saw it over my hotel room's window and searched it in Google map's Review, found that it opens until 9 PM I saw several whales' tales and also their jumping today and the guide staff said it is extremely fortunate. I didn't believe it but it...
Read moreWe passed the local pool several times on our way to and from the ski resort, and every time, the kids spotted the towering waterslides and begged to visit. One late afternoon, after a full day on the slopes, we finally gave in—despite the chilly 2°C temperature, we grabbed our swimsuits and headed out, unsure just how warm the outdoor pools would be.
To our surprise, the entrance fee was an absolute bargain—less than £20 for two adults and two children under 12! The changing rooms were clean and well-maintained, with lockers, showers, and liquid soap provided. Just remember to bring your own towel, shampoo, and conditioner.
After we realised, Akureyri Swimming Pool (Sundlaug Akureyrar) is one of the best geothermal pools in Iceland. It features multiple heated pools, hot tubs, exciting waterslides, a steam bath, and even a cold plunge for the brave (5-12 degrees celsius). The facilities are modern, spotless, and perfect for both relaxation and fun.
We tried everything—the cold plunge, the various heated pools, and, of course, the slides. Four hours flew by in no time, and the kids still didn’t want to leave. Meanwhile, the adults were starving—8 PM and we still hadn’t had dinner, so we had to say goodbye- see you later!
This place is a must-visit, and we’ll definitely be back on our next trip!

Read moreI came here as a tourist. There were some customs I didn't know, but the staff help you do everything correctly.
The pools are all heated to varying degrees, with some hot tubs getting quite hot. The large pools are all warm but comfortable.
The little kids pool is tons of fun for them and even has a tiny little waterslide so small kids can get in on the fun!
Speaking of water slides, there are 2 main ones that are at the top of a tower, maybe 40' tall, and were quite fun, altho it is like 99% tween boys using them for the most part. There is also a much smaller, wide metal slide with no waiting that is good for a quick slide.
The price is right! This place is a bargain. Go check it out. Fun for the...
