In Akureyri for about a week, including the Christmas holiday. We came in here every morning for breakfast that we could; it was right across from our Airbnb, but also probably the best coffee house in the city/town (full disclosure: we didn't visit any others). We got the breakfast and brunch platter which included things like eggs on sourdough, yogurt with granola and fruit, toast with avocado, cheese, or salmon, a bakery item (cookie or croissant), etc. The breakfast platter came with coffee and juice and came to abut $27. It is slightly different every day (probably based on what they have in stock), but always good. We would not recommend the fish soup (pricy for what you get). You order at the front and they bring your food to you and clean up after you leave. The cafe itself is about fifteen tables of 2 in the entrance to the art museum. The atmosphere is public school cozy :) - dim lights and string lights, brick red tile, books and succulents about, wooden benches. Good place for working w/ wifi. Would definitely recommend if you find...
Read moreFood is great. Services are slow by the US standard. We waited 30 minutes for a cup of coffee and two dishes. No one are waiting for food ahead of us. Not a problem.
The issue started when the coffee came without a spoon, I went to the front desk where I ordered the food from, I saw the young guy who took my order politely was busy so I asked another front desk staff, a young lady , and she stared at me and said " You will have to ask the kitchen for a spoon". Hmm.... I turned around and asked the young guy, he picked up the spoon on the shelves right behind him and handed over to me.
If that girl is a spoiled daughter of the owner and was dragged out of her bed by her mom then I will understand the reason why she wanted me to go to the kitchen and asking for a coffee spoon.
Btw, it was at 10:00 am to 11:00am today Sunday...
Read moreGreat food. Coffee is high in acidity which some people love, some loath. Portions sadly are expensive but tiny - in fact, the breakfast platter (around ISK 3,900 depending on the topping of the toast) includes just half (!) a pain au chocolat!! Service unfortunately is also high in acidity - I wasn't able to catch a smile and felt treated in a slightly passive-aggressive fashion which felt particularly inappropriate given several forgotten items about my order. I totally understand that a busy cafe can be stressful for the staff but smiling would make both guests (who all were patiently waiting anyhow) and the staff themselves feel more relaxed...
