Visited for a late lunch with my husband and we had the misfortune (or as it happened were fortunate) to be seated opposite the serving counter. We witnessed plates of food sitting on the serving counter for long periods of time, waiting to be taken to customers. The 3 waitresses were not rushed off their feet just disinterested. We thought at the time that the food waiting to go out must be part of larger orders, but that wasn't the case. One burrito, which we ended up nicknaming Billy, sat on the counter for over 20mins. (we were particularly interested in it as that is what my husband had ordered) Billy the burrito waited alongside plates of burgers and fries, ribs, and tacos. A falafel salad then arrived on the other end of the counter (which is what I had ordered). 45 mins after placing our order and 10 mins after the falafel salad had been placed on the counter a bored and unhurried waitress picked up Billy the burrito from one end of the counter and the salad from the other and brought them to our table. We told her we didn't want a burrito that had been sitting there for 25mins and to her credit she didn't bat an eyelid and swapped it for another one on the counter (which had only been there for 10mins). My salad was OK, as was my husband's burrito, but nothing special. If we had not been sitting in that particular table, we would have just thought the service was extremely slow, but to witness the food being ready and just not taken to tables was unacceptable. I repeat, the staff were not rushed off their feet, they just stood around looking...
Read moreThe exterior and interior were great, but the food was not recommendable in any means. First. The fish & chips. The fish fry was soggy. There was minimum amount of batter on small pieces of cod, which was soggy. What they only do is coating batter to given cod pieces and frying it. It is pretty simple recipe hard to fail but they did it! It was given with small amount of mayo, not tartar sauce and fries. The fries was crispy and good. Second. The fish soup. Wow, what a disaster! The look was so much different from previous pictures. There were a few small pieces of fish and several little pieces of shrimp. The shrimp was smaller than fingernail. And that's it. No veggie or any kinds of flavor at all. The soup was so watery and loose and I could see something coaulated maybe... flour lump or milk proteins on the bowl. I believe elementary school kids who don't understand what they are doing can make it much better. It didn't taste like a finished product. It was not something someone can sell or tag a price on. The price was not cheap either.
I really can't understand what is going with this restaurant. Some employment crisis or internal conflict? A tourist trap? Something is seriously wrong. I don't know the detail but I can hardly believe that this restaurant can make a good business with current status. And I hope things go well and make dishes good again...
Read moreThis is gas station food at an elevated price. We came here on the recommendation of a fellow Icelander in Sigló and regretted our choice. The best part of our meal was nothing having to do with Bautinn, but rather the classic car "cruise" that passed by as we looked out the window!
My partner and I ordered hamburgers and the meat quality was about what you get at a gas station, except that it costs 3500 - 4000 kr.
The drink menu online doesn't reflect the current prices; my partner paid 2100 kr for a Tuborg Classic. I paid much too much for a elderflower cocktail that was supposed to have blueberries in it and the server failed to say that blueberries weren't available. My drink showed up and I thought it was the wrong one since it looked so different from my expectations. When we called over another server to explain that the drink didn't include what was listed on the menu, she stared at us like we were crazy. We asked for the help of a manager and didn't hear anything back. Then a third server brought me a saucer of blueberries to add to my cocktail, with no comment or apology. What? I wanted them to be incorporated into the drink, not just tossed in.
If you're hungry, spare yourself the annoyance, save yourself some money, and choose...
