This is a hard place to rate. We were looking for an old school pub. However this place has recently changed owners and is very different than the pictures on Google maps. It is now more brighter colors and fluorescent. The bartender was very friendly. Overall it is a fine place but not what we were looking for. Ölstofa is just a few minutes away from Akureyrarkirkja with a decent selection of drinks. The atmosphere was OK, compared to some of the competition in central Akureyri, Ölstofa could do better in my opinion. I think the same goes for the service too. The thing I like the best is their tap beers but especially that they have some of the Eldgós Flamingo cocktail by Viking on tap, and it is discounted during happy hour so if you're a tourist looking for some affordable drinks, ask for that.
