Pontifical Gregorian University — Attraction in Rome

One of the best universities in the world. It is run by the Jesuit priests if the Catholic church. To study hear is prestigious. There are students from all over the world. Since it is a high standard college to study here is costlier than most other universities in Italy. There are professors from all over the world. The official language of the university is Italian and therefore, a student has to have the Italian language atleast B1 level. University allows the students to do exams also in English, German, Spanish and sometimes even in Portuguese. The university provides scholarships for students.

University also provides occasion for the students to learn languages, students of all the faculties has to learn English also. University has a large library with resources for all researchers, with photocopy self service. The non-Students of the university has no free acces to the library, they have to pay 10 euroes per use per day or there are also monthly/annual cards. The philosophy faculty of this university is world famous.

One of the defect may be lack of parking place. I studied here for six years. There is a chapel for the students and occasionssion to confess/celebrate mass. In una piazza antica un palazzo tutto sommato moderno che però è stato realizzato con grande maestria e si inserisce perfettamente nel contesto, costituendo un esempio di integrazione architettonica tra i più riusciti a mio avviso. Bisogna risalire al 1919 quando Papa Benedetto XV fece comprare alcuni fabbricati e terreni in piazza della Pilotta allo scopo di realizzare lì la nuova sede dell'Università, in prossimità dell'altro ateneo romano affidato ai gesuiti (Pontificio Istituto Biblico). Pio XI è stato il primo a far iniziare i lavori nel 1924 e quando furono abbattuti i vecchi edifici vennero alla luce alcuni resti dell'antico tempio di Serapide. Progetto semplice: edificio affacciato su piazza, con un'ampia corte interna coperta, dotato di aule, uffici e servizi, con alloggi per i professori, due cappelle e una grande biblioteca. Nell'agosto del 1927 ecco che le prime strutture murarie vennero realizzate e tre anni dopo tutto era pronto. E cosa è uscito fuori? Un esempio sobrio di neoclassicismo tipico del rinascimento romano che volutamente si è ispirato al palazzo del quale voleva costituire un'appendice (il palazzo del Collegio Romano). Paraste, logge, stemmi, tutto condito poi dalle insegne di Gregorio XIII e di Leone XII, l'uno fondatore, l'altro ripristinatore del secolare Istituto.
