草津温泉の中心に鎮座する湯畑。その周辺に立ち並ぶ数々のショップで連日賑わう草津温泉ですが、一歩裏の路地を進むと表とは違う顔の草津を楽しむことができます。湯滝通りに面する温泉たまご＆漬物のお店横に「裏草津・目洗い地蔵尊一口」の標識が。その先の階段を上がり進むこと5分くらいで目洗い地蔵様がいらっしゃいます。その横のスペースには「漫画堂」「 月の貌」があり階段を降ると「顔湯」、地元の人たちが管理利用している「地蔵の湯」や「手洗い湯」（湯畑周辺 に3ヶ所設置）、「足湯」もあります。連休になると列ができますが平日では並ばず足湯、顔湯を楽しむことができますよ。表の湯畑とは一味違う落ち着いた裏草津も乙なものです。

滞在時間：30分 湯畑から細い道を通って、階段をあがって、坂をくだって、たどりつく裏草津。足湯や顔湯を楽しめます。広場自体はコンパクトですが足湯や、地蔵の湯があり利用すると滞在時間はもっと必要かも？訪問時間が遅かったのもあって、通りにカフェみたいなお店は残念ながら...
