Currently, it is used as an exhibition and exit building for the Kyoto Railway Museum. History of the Old Nijo Station Building The former Nijo Station building is a Kyoto Railway station that opened in 1904 (Meiji 37). The station building, which has a history of 115 years, is a wooden two-story building with a gabled roof. At that time, the second floor of this station building housed the head office of a private railway company, Kyoto Railway, which also served as the head office building. The roof tiles of the carriage porch at the entrance of the station building are carved with the crest of the Kyoto Railway Company. It was built using wood during the Meiji era when many Western-style stone buildings were built. In addition, since this station was the closest station to the Imperial Palace at the time, it seems that the imperial family also used it when going to the San'in region. For this reason, a "guest room" is set up in the station. In 1996, it was designated as a tangible cultural property designated by Kyoto City, and in 1997 it was used as an exhibition museum for the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum. (Source: Ryukoku...
