At the same time, the main hall for enshrining Emperor Kanmu was built behind it, and it became a shrine facility when it was completed. It was built with donations from all over the country, designed by Imperial Household Ministry engineer Kiyotaka Kino and Imperial University graduate student Chuta Ito, and constructed by Shimizu Corporation. The architecture of Heian Shrine brings together knowledge of ancient architecture and Kyoto's architectural techniques, forming a unique architectural space oriented toward ancient times, and is recognized as having high design value. It is also historically important as one of the projects that supported Kyoto's architectural traditions. (From the Agency for Cultural Affairs: Nationally Designated Cultural Properties Database)

Spectacular view on the far side. Easily identifiable by the big gate. The park is loved by the locals and activities were held there often. Good for a walk with your family and loved one.

A unique experience, Heian Jingū was built in 1895 for the 1,100th anniversary of Heiankyō (the ancient name of Kyoto). The temple is dedicated to Emperor Kammu and Emperor Komei. The former moved the capital to Heiankyō, and the latter preceded Emperor Meiji, who moved the...
