The building was a clean, modern, but typical museum. The landscaping about it was beautiful and enhanced by autumn foliage, as with much of Kyoto. Inside was clean and spaceous. I noticed restrooms to the side as I entered. The layout was easy to navigate. I went for a bonsai exhibition I was unaware of until I explored the front area for a few minutes. The bonsai exhibition area was easy to find, and I had a ticket in quick. The facility seemed a great fit for the exhibition. All-in-all, the facilities and staff made for a pleasant and memorable experience. Read moreI enjoyed Kyoto last month for five days and wish I could have stayed longer. I discovered the Museum of Traditional Crafts on the internet while planning my trip. As a student of Japanese embroidery I could not miss this opportunity. The exhibits are amazing and having local artists thoughout the museum demonstrating their craft was an extra treat. In addition to the museum store and their wonderful and helpful staff, I was fortunate to be there on a day where there were other artists in side rooms showing and selling their items. Some of the other comments here make me wonder however if we were seeing the same thing others have seen. One comment indicates that this "is not a museum, everything is for sale". This was not so when we visited (January 2023), for although there was a gift shop, nothing we saw in the museum was for sale.
