During my visit to Kyoto in September 2024, I stopped at JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, and it was a pleasant and memorable experience. This station serves as a gateway to the iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and it’s about a 15-minute walk to the forest. The walk itself is delightful, with a charming and peaceful street view along the way.
The street leading to the forest is clean and quiet, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. It’s an enjoyable stroll, with plenty of opportunities to take in the local surroundings. You’ll pass by traditional-style buildings, quaint shops, and the occasional small garden, all adding to the charm of the journey.
The station itself is impressive in its cleanliness and upkeep. It’s beautifully maintained, with a simple yet elegant design that reflects the cultural essence of the area. Whether you’re arriving or departing, the station offers a smooth and hassle-free experience.
For visitors heading to Arashiyama, this station is an excellent starting point. The calmness of the station and its surroundings sets the tone perfectly for exploring the nearby attractions. It’s well-connected and easy to navigate, making it convenient for travelers.
Overall, JR Saga-Arashiyama Station is more than just a transit hub—it’s part of the journey to discovering the beauty of Arashiyama. I highly recommend walking from here to the bamboo forest for a peaceful and...
Read moreOur October trip in 2024 to Osaka-Kyoto was wonderful with beautiful temples, castle and forest. People were so friendly and very helpful especially when we asked for the direction on the street and in the train station. Unfortunately, on the 25th Oct about 2 pm in Arashiyama JR station, a young JR woman staff in the booth near ticketing machine, she responded to our simple question very rudely. She seemed to be very upset with everybody who requested her help. This is very rare case in Japan but Arashiyama JR station manager must look into this incidence and improve this lady attitude as soon...

Many interesting shops n nice cafes! Ride can be quite chilly so do bring a jacket/scarf. Arrive early to book the Sagano train as many tours with locals also...
