Le Vat Phra Mahathat (1548)(Nom : Monastère du stupa sacré) Particularités : Détruit complètement en 1900 par une tempête qui y fit de nombreuses victimes, il fut reconstruit en 1907 et restauré en 1963 et 1991. La toiture est à simple rupture de pente. Il a un rôle important lors de Pimai. Le grand stupa date du 16ème siècle et les bouddhas dans les niches ont la posture de l’appel à la pluie. Le stupa recouvert de mosaïques et les autres à côté renferment les cendres de princes décédés au 20ème siècle. Sur un des vantaux de porte, la légende de la Kinari est sculptée. L’escalier d’accès depuis la rue est monumental avec ses rampes nagas.

This is a big temple , lot's of young Lama's practice here . They study and do chanting . This place is open for all tourist . It's closed at 6 . We stay here for one night as we are traveling in bicycle . We asked them if we can stay there the monk say yes but morning we wake up with local people around us telling us go from here , they were angry . Actually in Laos it's not allowed to...

This temple was just next door to the hotel where I stayed in Laos. During the Lantern Festival, it was transformed- illuminated with colourful lanterns and young monks darting around, keeping them alight. During the day, the verandah of the temple provided shade for the women who were weaving flower garlands for the festivities...
