The hotel is in a wonderful location close to the Unesco protected old town of Luang Prabang that is great for seeing all the sites including the temples, shopping, cafes, restaurants, night market and day market. ||We stayed 5 nights which I thought was perfect for seeing all that Luang Prabang offers. The town reminds me how so many Asian cities were 50 years ago. It is truly special!||The French colonial architecture of the hotel is stunning on beautiful estate grounds and gardens with a amazing atmosphere.||I recommend to do the package the hotel offers that includes a city tour, breakfast and dinner, sunset cruise, baci ceremony, Alms offering with the monks, massage, airport transfers etc.||The hotel provides complimentary bicycles but we used their Tuk- tuk and car that will take you to the town, for the markets , cafes and shopping anytime you want.||The chef- JS, prepared delicious meals with lots of choices at breakfast and dinner. He was also very engaging with the guests as he wanted to explain all the food prepartions and he wanted to make sure you were happy with the selection. He even made us a special Italian dinner one evening. Dinner was at the lovely pool by candlelight every evening in a beautiful setting. Desserts were delicious too! The waiters were so attentive and provided great service.||They even had a performance with dancers and masked performers by the pool one night that was very entertaining. There are also musicians playing music every day at the hotel. Amantaka is a class act in everything they do!||Don’t miss the complimentary tea time with desserts and treats in the afternoon.||We loved walking through the town seeing the lovely architecture of all the buildings, shopping and stopping at French Bakeries.||I wrote the hotel months in advance and communicated with Elodie who is the Guest Relations Manager. Her emails to me were very detailed and she arranged our city tour which included the Royal Palace Museum and Temples and she provided a very knowledgeable guide. Also a trip to Kuang Si Waterfalls , the Lao Bear Sanctuary and neighboring tribal villages was a great tour she organized for us.||We had the pleasure of meeting her at the hotel. She is an amazing person and we adored her! Amantaka is lucky to have such a dedicated and passionate person working for them. She was a true highlight of our stay at Amantaka.||Elodie even accompanied us to the Deaf and Mute Center that gives deaf children an education and opportunity to learn a job including dressmaking, weaving, carpentry etc in order to have a professional integration into society when they graduate. It was an incredible experience to see the children’s classrooms, living quarters, cafeteria and how they prepare their meals . The children come from villages in Laos and are so happy there. We donated money to provide fresh water for the children for one month. They were so appreciative.||We enjoyed the hotel’s luxurious boat for a 2 hour sunset cruise on the Mekong River and the food and drinks were great!||Must see and do when in Luang Prabang: Mandalao Elephant Experience, Big Brother Mouse Center (Drop in to help young Laotians improve their skills, at their English conversation practice), Waterfalls and Bear Sanctuary, Night Market (reasonably priced local handicrafts), Day Market (incudes fruits, vegetables ) UXO Lao Visitors Centre , The Deaf and Mute Center, and city tour of the Palace and temples.|||The hotel spa was fantastic and we loved our massages and the hot pool we used before our treatments.||There were complimentary drinks in the mini fridge in the Villas and also wonderful complimentary laundry.||Our suite accommodations was gorgeous with a lovely décor and furnishings that included a separate sitting area, bedroom, beautiful bathroom and outdoor pool and lounging area.||Housekeeping cleaned our room to perfection! Thank you for the great service.||Norbu the General Manager was lovely and he knows how to run a great hotel and under his leadership provides guests with a memorable experience.||Amantaka has won many accolades including: Laos Leading Hotel by World Travel Awards, and Travel and Leisure magazine luxury award for Laos’ best hotel. ||Luang Prabang and Amantaka was a highlight on our 5 country trip. Read moreAmantaka is a sublime hotel.||I had high expectations coming to Amantaka and was trying to temper them. Nevertheless, the property exceeded them in nearly every way.||My last two Aman experiences had been exceptional (Aman Tokyo and Amangalla) and it seemed unwise to believe this would be the same level: different country, staff etc. ||I was picked up at my first Luang Prabang hotel by Aman. On arrival, the remarkable Elodie and her team welcomed me in the usual way, with a tour of the property. ||The building is an old 1920s French colonial era hospital that became derelict and at one stage was home to many squatters. It would have been nice to know which bits were which back then, but as a municipal building it would probably have fewer records. ||My room was in one of the old hospital wings on the courtyard, at the end of which by the hotel’s main building is the pool (which was very cold for a swim, it must be said). ||The glorious high ceilings of colonial buildings in the tropics were in evidence, as was Aman’s deft and sensitive hand in design. The original windows and doors are wonderful, well maintained and given a subtle grey-green colour. ||The furniture is of the colonial design period, but locally influenced as well. Naturally rattan is everywhere, this being former French Indochina, and the four poster bed is a lovely touch of grandeur. ||The palette is really soothing, feels modern and yet vintage, inspiring me to continue my 20s and 30s big band playlist from the previous hotel on the Bluetooth speaker. ||The one thing I would note is that the mass expanse of tile - without any rugs breaking it up (particularly under the bed) - is a little samey. It certainly contributes to a feeling of size, but it makes it feel less like home. ||The room is huge, with a separate terrace of two sunloungers and a table and two chairs, surrounded by charming green plants and looked over by palms. ||The bathroom is a central tub overlooking the terrace and a separate shower room with Aman toiletries. I didn’t use the tub, but it looked a pleasant place to spend a few hours soaking. ||At the room entrance is a terrace with two chairs and a table, and a stack of umbrellas in a stand in case it rains.||At no point did I feel this was a hotel. It felt like very elegant quarters for a colonial administrator. It is highly authentic and, at the same time, extremely well maintained and using high quality materials. ||The hotel has bikes to cycle around the town, which I used, but had to return early on one occasion as the chain broke halfway round the town. This was a slight style over substance moment as though the grey-green bikes are beautiful with their lovely wicker baskets, the very minimum is that they should work and be reliable. ||The furniture outside is high quality, black metal furniture with lush, thick white cushions. The staff are constantly brushing off falling tree debris from them, and there are traditionally attired groundsmen constantly sweeping paths. The hotel is very nearly always absolutely spotless. ||I never ate at the Aman for dinner as I was keen to explore the town. I went to Gaspard and Little Lao - the latter better than the former and it has a great mixologist too. ||I had wanted to take the Aman’s boat out for a sunset trip but it was fully booked by the time I arrived. Instead, I was recommended two options by the multi-lingual and highly professional Elodie who then arranged to book an option for me, without having to myself. Aman charge a small 5% fee for this but then this is about convenience and comfort. The sunset from the boat was glorious, even if I was alone. ||It’s difficult to improve on Amantaka. ||I think more work could be done with local businesses like Caruso to produce unique pieces for the shop: everything local in there is currently all available in the brands’ stores in town. Making it Aman branded - e.g. swim shorts in a local print, only available at Amantaka - could be more interesting than fitness tops just branded “Amantaka.” ||I would also heat the pool. It’s not really very pleasant to be in it very long, even when you’re very hot. It would be nice to have a French evening too (food wise) as this still feels authentic to the history of Luang Prabang alongside Laotian cuisine.||I’d get better quality electric bikes too, and maybe put some rugs in the rooms. And up the ante on the artwork in the room as well. Satri House did a great job...
Read moreIt's so great to still be that amazed by the quality of an hotel and the staff Avis sur Amantaka Avis publié : Il y a 2 jours Google Traduction First of all, when we arrived the first reaction the four of us had was : Waw, and I mean a real waw! I instantely had some regret knowing we'd stay only 3 nights.
This place is amazing. Location is perfect (3-15 minutes walk from most of the sites you'd like to visit in Luang Prabang), decor is astonishing, very peaceful and elegant, food is excellent and staff is very well trained and friendly even if it might be better on some points for some of them but don't worry, what one may not know, some of his or her colleague will know.
We stayed three nights end of July 2019, 2 adults and 2 kids 8Y and 10Y in a Khan Suite and a Suite. There is no connecting rooms but there is kind of a connection from the outside. It was OK for us even if we are quite sensitive about that subject. The rooms are perfectly sized, swimming pool in the Khan suite is big enough to swim, amenities are very complete and shampoo/soap etc... have a very nice perfume. Airco works perfectly and is not too loud even it might be a bit less noisy in the bedroom. The rate we had included half board package... I think it's standard but the booking was done through an agent so I'm not sure. The main swimming pool is more than big enough and was very quiet. Again, service there was good and very caring. Between 16h and 18h there is a complimentary Tea Time in the library for the hotel and while there is not a lot to choose from, the variety is OK and the quality is very good.
About the Restaurant, I'd like to write some special thanks to Chef Jovan and the staff. They all contributed to make our three diner times something exceptional on many levels. You can choose between Lao food, western food and vegetarian food. There is also a Kid's Menu. The Western and Lao Menu change every day based on a three days program. Lao food is not too spicy while keeping a lot of taste. You really should try it without second guess. It was really good and the staff again very caring and efficient. By the way, you can eat in the restaurant or on the terrace next to the swimming pool. Thanks you to the Chef for taking the time to say hello to everyone and share some of his passion. Cocktails were also excellent. I think Champagne was expensive.
My wife booked a 2 hours Spa treatment and she told me it was also very good and one of the best she's had for a long time.
The Hotel staff speaks a fairly good English, better than mine anyway ;)
I'd also like to give another special thanks to Paul and colleagues. We've had a lot of information and Paul took a lot of his time to discuss with us. It was very interesting and much appreciated.
We really hope to stay again in the Amantaka in Luang Prabang and we'd definitely recommend it to anyone who...
