I had quite mixed feelings about this "culture palace." When I visited, there was a rather small show about architecture on the ground floor, and another small show of Mexican drawing, painting and pottery upstairs. In other words, it's a very large building with very little art inside.

Then there was the atmosphere. Although I understand that the security situation in Mexico is not great, I've never seen so many guards watching visitors' every move with such intensity. You'd think the place was packed with DaVincis and Vermeers being viewed by crowds of drunken, skateboard-toting teenagers.

It is free to pop in and have a look, and the building itself is attractive. But as a cultural institution this place leaves something to be desired,...

Every time that I visit El Centro in CDMX i always pay a visit to this Banamex Art Gallery, this time I was incredibly surprised by the prolific artist Miguel Covarrubias, he painted people from Mexico, Harlem, and Bali; he lived in New York City, travelled to Bali and other parts of the Pacific. He drew cartoons for The New Yorker and Vogue, he made maps, just an amazing artist; the best part of this exhibit is that there was a guided tour of the exhibit which was a very nice complement to the art work. In the second level there is a photographic exhibit El Mexico de los Mexicanos, very interesting pictures from all over in Mexico and its inhabitants. If you are in...

It's an incredible experience! This Museum offers almost all FREE exhibits. (doesn't matter if you are a foreigner) Exhibits remain for 1 to 3 months. Some exhibits are also free guided, so ask in for a better experience. (but I recommend to give a Tip to guides [Most of them are students]). I dont know if they offer tour guidanses in different languages than Spanish, but you can ask.

Tours here could last from 25 minutes up to 2 hours depending on the exhibit, some has few chambers open and others the whole Museum.

Pls visit this places, you will learn more from our culture and...

Beautiful art in a gorgeous historical building. It has a fascinating history - this building was previously called The Palace of Iturbide (1779 to 1785) and built as a replica of a royal palace in Palermo, Italy. Upon independence from Spain, the First Mexican Emperor was crowned here and took up residence. THEN for a couple of centuries it had a number of purposes, including housing the School of Mining (!). Now, the restored building houses a collection of art and has been renamed the Palacio de Cultura Banamex. It’s free entry and open for all of us to enjoy! How lovely.

We found this place by accident and recognised the sculpture inside from London, the staff were very polite and all too happy to let us come in and have a look for free, Av. Francisco I. Madero is a great shopping street and full of life but it's nice to have an escape from retail therapy and see something that doesn't require a purchase. There is a similar bank owned exhibit three blocks west of Liverpool (Palace of the counts if San Mateo de Valparaíso) that is also free to enter.
