Four of us ate Kansas BBQ for NZD129. It was tasty and good value items can be picked out on the menu so we'll be back again. Stepping off the street we were met with a little smoke from the barbecue giving the place an authentic grill house look and the memory of the smell will nag me until I go back. We were seated at a smallish, simple, square table for four near a warm gas or electric fireplace. Nice and cosy, in contrast to the cold outside. The knives and forks are in a tin, so don't think your date will be impressed if she was expecting an expensive looking place. The face brick walls are sparsely covered with the usual American grill paraphernalia. I had a pork rib served with fresh cut fries on an aluminum, rectangular tray. I guess I could have had a side order of salad if I wanted, but it would be extra. My company had rib eye. One was served with fries and salad and the other swapped the fries for mash smothered in cheese. Both agreed the steak was excellent although there was a preference for more textured mash instead of puree. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious too and good value. It was served with fries. To drink it was hot chocolate. Apparently it was good too. I had a traditional lemonade and I'll recommend to try this one if you are into that sort. We were done in under an hour. Overall a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDined here with a group a couple days ago. Pretty good service. Pleasant enough atmosphere. Ran out of coffee around 8.30pm- (and no staff went the 800m down the road to either of the 2 big supermarkets to get some more, despite restaurant being full)- so no coffee with dessert for anyone! :-( $18 "Best Burger" was anything but! Completely overpriced. Served "open" on long plate, which in my opinion tries to make the burger look bigger- but only serves to cool the burger down faster. Burger bun top was COLD, and burger a bit dry, lacking sauce :-( Chips almost the best part! Iced Peach tea supposedly came with free refills, but we were told they had run out of it, so if I wanted a refill, I was out of luck- the Peach Iced tea tasted watered down and bitter, and I didn't even finish my glass :-( Give me a Lipton from the supermarket any day. Someone in our group didn't even get their meal, so they shared their partners :-( Perhaps the kitchen was under-staffed, or just couldn't handle a large booking, as there were long waits for light meals too. Other members of our group were unimpressed too. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreService was not up to usual standard. Waitress take note. You do not pass food across people, you go around table and place plate or bottle in front of patron. Manager, took an hour and ten minutes to bring out bread sticks with herbs butter. And then straight after that mussels and salad brought out. Mussels weren't shelled probably. Have you ever tried to shell a scolding hot mussels shell in your hand. Waited another 50 mins for mains only to be told there would be a delay cause they were busy. Low and behold, mains turn up 5 mins later. Dessert. 2 ladies ordered pavlova and got a meringues ( don't know if that is spelt right) instead. False advertising. Other tables also question ā us about this. Checked out bill later and found I was charged $45 for a salad and meringue. Very disorganized. Not up to their usual standard. And you can't blame being busy as an excuse. I myself have worked in many restaurants and know what...
