Albert Park is a public park in central Auckland, bounded by Wellesley Street East, Princes Street, Bowen Avenue and Kitchener Street. From the entrance at the corner of Bowen Ave and Kitchener St, sealed footpaths climb steeply through native trees to the large flat area at the summit, where a formal layout of paths and flower gardens encircle a fountain. While Albert Park is formed from sandstone, to the north-west of the park is the Albert Park Volcano, a scoria cone which erupted approximately 145,000 years ago and blanketed much of Albert Park in ash. Albert Park was the location of a Waiohua settlement called Mangahekea, sacked in the 1740s by Ngāti Whātua. Albert Park occupies much of the site of the Albert Barracks, one of Auckland's early European military fortifications. In the 1850s and 1860s, Albert Barracks to many soldiers including those of the 58th Regiment. The barracks consisted of a number of wooden and masonry structures standing in an enclosed area surrounded by a rock fortification built of the local volcanic stone. A portion of this wall remains visible in the adjacent University of Auckland grounds, and is registered by Heritage New Zealand as a Category I historic place. The Park was set aside as a reserve in the 1870s, and developed as a park in the 1880s. It originally had commanding views over the city and harbour. The view now is of modern office blocks, except where mature trees have hidden the buildings. The park contains a number of interesting specimen trees dating from the 1880s to the first World War. A caretaker's residence was provided which still stands on the eastern side of the part adjacent to Princes Street. After 1906 this Gothic-styled cottage was occupied by the City Park Superintendent Thomas Pearson, who died here in 1931. The park's layout and design have not greatly changed since 1882. Due to the park's proximity to the University of Auckland, it is a popular location for students to relax.

Title: Beautiful Oasis in the Heart of Auckland I recently had the pleasure of visiting Albert Park in downtown Auckland, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. This serene oasis amidst the bustling city is a true gem that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and natural beauty. The park's meticulously maintained gardens and picturesque surroundings create a sense of tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. As soon as you step foot into Albert Park, you'll feel transported to a different world, away from the chaotic city life. Walking through the park's pathways, I was captivated by the stunning collection of flora and fauna. The vibrant flowers, towering trees, and perfectly manicured lawns showcase the dedication and care the park staff provide. Moreover, the atmosphere in Albert Park is simply magical. It's a hub of joy and laughter, with locals and visitors alike enjoying picnics, reading books under the shade of trees, or simply soaking up the sun. This friendly and inviting atmosphere truly adds to the park's charm. I also appreciated the amenities available in the park, including clean restrooms and well-maintained seating areas. It's evident that the park management takes great pride in providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Overall, I highly recommend Albert Park to everyone looking for a peaceful escape in the heart of Auckland. Whether you're seeking relaxation, a place to exercise, or simply a breath of fresh air, this park has it all. Trust me, a visit to Albert Park is an experience you don't want to miss! Happy exploring!

I decided to give my elder child a break from the hospital environment, so we went for a walk to get some doughnuts from Krisp and Kreamy. On our way, we stumbled upon this beautiful place adorned with flowers and a water fountain. Suddenly, my child transformed into a model and began demanding pictures, striking funny poses while thoroughly enjoying herself. As we looked around, we noticed many people walking, sitting, and relaxing on benches and in the grass. It's indeed a wonderful spot to unwind and immerse oneself in nature. Health enthusiasts can also enjoy a good walk here. The park boasts a great collection of flowers, adding to its charm. Along the way from the city hospital to this park, you'll find plenty of eateries. Moreover, once you cross the park and head to the other side, you'll discover even more excellent dining options. It truly makes for a fantastic place to hang out with family or loved ones. We observed numerous couples spending quality time together, adding to the delightful atmosphere of the park.

Sights @ Albert Park. . The design of this public park in the city was the outcome of a competition. From the entrance, steep footpaths climb pass native trees to the large and level summit, where a network of paths and flower gardens encircle a cast iron fountain, wrought with cherubs and dolphins. . At one end of the park, marble edifices surround a picturesque band rotunda, its composition appearing in postcards of the locale since the early 20th century. . At the other end, a Boer war memorial stands, guarded by 2 large field guns, remnants from a time of tension. . Another attraction here is a large floral clock that was constructed in 1953. An a hidden easter egg - an actual operating gas lamp from the Victorian era, the sole remnant of its kind, on the stairs leading from Kitchener Street.
