The hotel is currently in a huge construction zone, so it was difficult to get to the entrance with my suitcase. It isn't far from the main square and from the riverfront. The room was fairly nice with a/c (a MUST here), hot water, a mini fridge, nice bed, and a nice breakfast. I was lucky and got a room with a high window facing outside, most don't and the window looks in on the hallway. The airport transfer was nice but a guy helped me with my bag and loaded it in to the taxi then demanded a tip. He wasn't even the driver, but a "middle man" friend of the driver that we dropped off at the taxi station, weird? I had to stay one night in Iquitos prior to an Amazon lodge stay. This is not the hotel's fault, but Iquitos is a dirty, smelly littered town that I will never return to. If I had the option, I'd time the airport arrival with lodge pick up and no Iquitos stay! I almost got sick in their market with the smell, heat, filth, humidity, no breeze, and what was displayed there! The guy at the hotel was a little pushy trying to sell tours, sell a ride with his friend in his tuk tuk... I had his friend take me to the manatee rescue place and town tour. He was nice enough but ended up charging me 5 times what the other 2000 tuk tuk drivers charged. I walked around the area a bit. The nicest area was right on the riverfront. I asked a restaurant host in Spanish where the road was of the hotel and she didn't know. It was literally the next road! Hard to find due to the construction. When I checked out, the desk guy asked to take my photo for facebook. I declined. Didn't like it well enough to help advertise! The price was right, but there are...
Read moreAfter eight really hot and hugely wonderful days with Amazonia Expeditions, I was really ready for some air conditioning, and boy did I get it. In fact I nealry froze, which was most welcomed, given that my lodges previously had no fans to speak of. So it was lovely to relax and really cool off. That along with the fridge; and a nice full breakfast including eggs, yogurt, fruit, a bit of bacon, bread and juice. You call ahead. The plug next to my bed wasn't working, and the Internet simply didn't want to work for me but the staff worked overtime to try to help. It was only overnight. The hotel is about four blocks from the central square which, really, isn't much to speak of. You are there for business or for the Amazon, either way, this is a nice place to stay to relax...
