Jan Heweliusz Monument – Gdańsk This monument honours Jan Heweliusz (Johannes Hevelius), a renowned 17th-century astronomer, mathematician, and inventor from Gdańsk. It was unveiled on January 28th, 2006, on the 395th anniversary of his birth. You’ll find it in a peaceful square on Korzenna Street, just opposite the Old Town Hall.

The statue, created by sculptor Jan Szczypka, shows Heweliusz seated with a book on his knee and an astrolabe in his hand – a nod to his scientific achievements. His figure is dressed in historical clothing, inspired by an old engraving by Jeremiasz Falck.
