Amber Apartments — Local services in Gdansk

We booked via Booking.com with no problems. We were arriving late & Tomasz the owner gave clear instructions on how to gain access. We caught the bus at 9.25 pm from outside the airport. Turn right after leaving departures & head for the bus stops which are across the road. Bus number 210 To Gdansk. You can buy a ticket at the machine next to the bus stop or pay the driver 3.80 Zloty correct fare is preferred. Write down your destination as they don't always speak English. The apartment block is only a 5 minute walk from the station. Use Google to find your way. Tomasz was there to greet us & pointed out things in the area. The apartment was in a nice safe quiet area with a few bars & restaurants nearby as well as supermarkets. There is a security camera & locks on the entrance gate. Apartments are up two flights of stairs but not a problem for us. Fully equipped with all amenities including washing machine, dishwasher & aircon. Towels & bedding are included. No toiletries are provided but loo is. There is a cupboard in the hallway housing extra items should you need them such as loo rolls, shampoo, tea, coffee, umbrellas etc. The apartment had tea & coffee & bottled water in the fridge which is welcome after a long journey. A very nice clean & comfortable apartment for 2. The air con can be used to heat the room as well as cool it down. There are lovely big blinds to help keep out the light. We were able to pay with card with no problems. The old town is literally less than a 10 minute walk away with many restaurants, bars & historic sites. However it is a very quiet location. The train/bus station is a 5 minute walk. Gdansk is very beautiful & historic. We stayed in the Vanilla apartment for 4 nights in September.||||Positives:||||Very clean, well presented, light and airy accommodation.||Free wifi which worked perfectly.||Good bathroom.||Plenty of facilities including dishwasher, small washing machine and drying rack.||Excellent location - very short walk to old town, rail station and bus stop to the airport. Quiet side street with little traffic.||Good sized flat screen tv.||Crisp cotton bedding.||Good security.||A lot included for the price. ||A very good choice for a small family - plenty of space and facilities - although stairs need to be negotiated (see below).||||Negatives:||||The bed. We chose the apartment because of the good sized double bed. The mattress was comfortable but the slatted wooden bed base was very creaky. Every time one of us turned over in the night the creaking woke the other. ||No lift. The apartments are on the second floor which is difficult with luggage.||No operating instructions for the tv or washing machine. We spent a very frustrating hour trying to get the tv to work without success. (We emailed the owner the next day and he emailed back with instructions which worked).||No tourist information in the room. It would have been good to be provided with a map, maybe a few leaflets, and details of a choice of places to eat the first night before we got to know our way around.||||Would we stay again?||||Probably not, and certainly only if the bed was replaced by a good quality divan. This is our third time in the Amber Apartments, and because of that, we can honestly say that this place and straff continue to deliver great value and service time after time. All three apartments has their own special theme and they are furnished different too. All appliances are modern and works perfectly. What separates this from other holiday apartments, and I have been in quite a few, is the straff (Tomasz). He really goes out of his way to make your stay pleasant. His level of service is comparable to the one you can expect on a five star...
