Uphagen House is located on St. Long 12 Street and is only restored in Gdansk with his middle-class apartment house design. At the end of XV century this place was built in brick building. Its relics are now in the basement of an existing building. In the following centuries, it often changed the property owners and the house had numerous transformations and finally in 1775 was bought and rebuilt by Uphagen Johann, a merchant, an amateur historian, bibliophile. After the death of building owner property remained in family hands and has survived almost intact until the early XX century. In 1911 the museum opened in the building interior, which operated until 1944. Then the upcoming actions against war were evacuated home decor and furnishings in the vicinity of Gdansk. In 1981 the house was given to the Historical Museum of Gdansk and in 1998 was open to the public. Museum was closed because of Covid-19 but I was at least lucky to see building from the back. It is much longer than others. After 2 world war the other buildings were rubuilt shorter and here you can imagine how it...

W 1775 dom nabył zamożny bibliofil i historyk Johann Uphagen (1731–1802), pochodzący z gdańskiego rodu Uphagenów. Nakazał on przebudowę fasady oraz wnętrz zgodnie z obowiązującym nurtem (rokoko). W przeciwieństwie do wielu innych domów bogatych mieszczan gdańskich budynek zachował XVIII-wieczny wygląd zewnętrzny i wewnętrzny. Muzeum Gdańska prezentuje zwiedzającym kilkanaście pomieszczeń: sień, antresolę, herbaciarnię, sień I piętra, salon I piętra, dużą jadalnię, trzy saloniki w oficynie bocznej (pokoje owadów, kwiatów i muzyczny), małą jadalnię, sień oficyny, izbę kucharki, kuchnię, spiżarnię oraz kantor.

Well, it was interesting to see and visit this place because I heard a lot about it. Great idea has been realized here and I really appreciate it. Some rooms like dinning room and "staff room" look more attractive than others. Especially my applause for wallpapers with nature scenes and for Uphagen (or Ophagen) family tree history. Btw inside you could find several clocks from London and so unusual XVIIth century wooden wardrobe. But at the same time couple of rooms look "lonely" and haven't enough "equipment" (just from my perspective of view). Anyway let's see this one, even on weekend I didn't see any lines...

This is a as must see! It is the only available building of the 18th century in original architecture in Poland. Unfortunately all the available furniture and art objects disappeared during the ww2 and nobody knows where they are, potentially the today owner don’t know that these parts could belong to the Uphagen house in Gdansk. Crossing my fingers to get once a day some missing parts back. 4 stars, better guidance would help the visitor to learn more about the backstory
