Under the guidance of the 2nd Bishop of Colombo the Rt. Rev. Piers Calverley Claughton and under the leadership of Revd. Dr. George Schrader, later Archdeacon of Colombo, the construction of the church building was commenced. In 1868 October 30th the laying of the foundation stone was held. 1871 February 21st the church building was consecrated by the Bishop Claughton for the glory of God and for worship services.
