We arrived in Europe a day before our river cruise to acclimate and see the city of Basel so it was important that we had a hotel that would allow us to maximize our stay. Hotel Marthof was an amazing stay that helped us start our vacation the right way.||For me, a nice room is a given, so a great stay has to provide more and the Marthof does that with incredible location and amenities. If hope to maximize a short stay in city, location is imperative, and the Marthof has that with a location on the Marketplatz across from the Town Hall within blocks of the Middle Bridge and the Rhine River and less than a half mile (kilometer) walk to all the sights shopping, history and culture in Old Town Basel. ||The second thing you want is amenities you can't get everywhere and the Marthof has those as well. First it has a good restaurant and bar attached which we enjoyed for breakfast and drinks. However, while they offer a great seat overlooking the square on the sidewalk, the best feature is a rooftop terrace where you can enjoy your drink from below with a view of the city. Additionally, the hotel has spa facilities which we used to shower and change after our afternoon adventure floating down the Rhine. ||As for the room, it was everything we needed with a great bed and larger than average for Europe. Despite comments, we were on the second floor facing the street with the tram and had ZERO noise issues on a Friday night. We had a great night's sleep and a great visit in Basel in spite of our short stay in large part because of the Marthof. It was worth every bit of the cost. Finally, the staff could not have been better and more helpful. This has to be the best...

Everything about this hotel we loved! It was so stylish and charmingly elegant. The staff were so helpful and friendly! We loved the room and the bed was so comfortable. We didn’t hear any noise but we loved hearing the Market clock chime in the morning. Note the clock does not chime at all in the night. The old town is simply stunning and the hotel is in the heart of it! You can walk every where! The hotel gym and relaxing room with adjoining sauna area is super stylish and the ambience is decadent. The staff can’t do enough for you and smile all the time. Even the chamber Maids are happy and said gut Morgan! At breakfast the staff made poached egg on toast for me although it wasn’t on the breakfast eggs menu they wanted to just give the best service! I really appreciated this. Even though it was raining the staff manager stepped outside to point directions out to me and also show me on the map, he then reached in and pulled an umbrella to say for you to keep dry! At the check out we were given a bar of hotel chocolate. We didn’t expect this and being a chocoholic myself we found this a wonderful finishing touch to the perfect stay! This chocolate bar waa beautifully wrapped with a picture of the hotel. We eat the bar on the train to the airport. The chocolate taste was amazing!! To all the staff thank you for this wonderful ambience and kindness. You have all gone above and beyond in making our stay very welcoming!! We highly recommend your hotel! If anyone is looking for a hotel in Basel then look no further! This is the...

I had a pleasant experience at the Marthof hotel in Basel. I stayed in the signature room for one night. The staff was super friendly, kind, and helpful. When I checked-in, the lobby was a bit small but cozy. The room was an appropriate size for two, and the design was lovely. It was equipped with beautiful high-quality furniture, and I could easily tell how they cared about small details with the construction, such as flooring and finishing materials. The room was overall well maintained and clean. There was an art and tour guide book to set the ambiance that I was here in an art city. In the mini fridge, there were snacks and beverages offered free of charge. Although it probably cost 10-15 dollars, I could see the hospitality. Also, I don’t want to skip mentioning the shower head in the bathroom. The water pressure made me feel very comfortable; the water pressure was strong, but there was no discomfort. My husband used the fitness room in the hotel in the morning and later brought two apples and sparkling water. He said the apples were available on the table in the fitness room. It may not matter to someone else, but I appreciated...

We stayed at this hotel for four nights. The room was good and clean, which we appreciated. However, the room service definitely needs improvement. I ordered twice through the digital concierge (which is a nice feature), but both times there were issues. The first time, they forgot one of the burgers. I requested it again, waited 40 minutes, but no one came, so I had to cancel it. The next day, we ordered room service again, and once more, they forgot the French fries and a glass of wine. When I mentioned this to the staff member who delivered our order, she didn’t apologize and simply said, “The kitchen is in a hurry.” When I pointed out that this was the second time it had happened, her response was a dismissive “Yeah, okay.” That’s not the level of service you expect, especially when you’re hungry and just want to enjoy your meal. Later, a young man did come to apologize, which I appreciated. My recommendation would be to improve service efficiency and train staff to be more polite and attentive to guests. A little courtesy goes a long way!
