Commonly known as the Ubud Water Palace, this enchanting site is home to Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati, a temple steeped in spiritual and architectural grandeur. In accordance with the traditions of Bale Agung Ubud (the Ubud Village community), entry to the temple itself is restricted to visitors. However, guests are welcome to explore the Kori Agung area and bask in the serene beauty of the Lotus Pond, a truly mesmerizing sight. Visitors are kindly asked to respect local customs by donning the traditional purple sarong and head covering, a gesture of reverence for this sacred space. The atmosphere here is nothing short of magical. The temple’s elegant structures, tranquil water features, and vibrant lotus blooms create an ethereal setting perfect for photography. Though compact in size, every corner of this place is exquisitely detailed, making it a feast for the eyes and the soul. For an even more delightful experience, we highly recommend visiting the adjacent restaurant. Sip on a finely crafted cocktail while admiring breathtaking views of the temple—a moment of pure bliss. Nestled just off a bustling street in Ubud Centre, this water temple stands as one of Ubud’s most captivating highlights. The delicate interplay of lotus flowers, ancient statues, and blossoming trees sets a scene of poetic charm, further enhanced by the inviting ambiance of the nearby eatery, where you can indulge in top-quality cuisine while gazing upon the temple’s tranquil splendor. While the temple itself can be explored within 15 to 30 minutes, many visitors find themselves lingering longer, enchanted by the surroundings. A modest entry fee at the gate includes the use of a sarong, jacket, and headband, ensuring that all guests honor the local customs with grace. A visit to the Ubud Water Palace is not just a sightseeing stop—it’s an experience of serenity, beauty, and cultural richness.

Tourist Trap!! Pay the money to go in only if you like dressing up and taking tacky Instagram pictures. Despite the purple and gold theme with cheap ornate thrones (blocking the truly beautiful doors), water spouts, and unkept statue dressings, you can sense that this temple was once beautiful and authentic. They have killed its authenticity when turning it into a tourist attraction. You'd be better off trying to see it for free from the adjacent Starbucks. (Try the back 2nd level.) There are plenty of nice and authentic temple courtyards you can wander around inside for free. It takes no more than 5 to 10 minutes to leisurely walk around the entire place.

The water gardens are beautiful. To get the most out of the experience scan the QR code at the entrance so you can read the detailed description of the features. It is unfortunate but understandable that people are not allowed inside the temple, but the outside is full of interesting carvings. As a temple, you will be provided with a sarong and shirt to cover up. There is a cafe with food and alcoholic drinks next to the garden on the left where you can enjoy the atmosphere as well as beanbag chairs and benches to the right side within the garden complex. I was only charged 50k which seems fair. Strangely Christmas music was playing in the garden.

A Beautiful Cultural Gem in the Heart of Ubud! Visiting the Ubud Water Palace with my wife and baby girl was a truly magical experience. The lotus pond and fountains are absolutely stunning—perfect for photography and capturing the beauty of Balinese culture. Walking through the palace grounds, you can feel the rich history and peaceful atmosphere all around you. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Ubud, whether you’re looking to take in the incredible architecture, learn more about Bali’s cultural heritage, or just enjoy a serene and picturesque setting. Highly recommended! See more from me @strex on IG.

Noy worth it Like all the other places in bali, its just tourist trap for pics! No history abt the place or wats the purpose etc is mentioned anywhere. Even thr guides just take you there for pics. So I asked her if there is a guide and she said No. Asked her if there is any info board in English she said “No” made a 😏 smug face and said yes how may i help you to the lady behind me, when i was not done talking to her! If people cant be polite then they should go find other jobs at the backend, not try to be at the reception. Hope they fire her. All these long drives & for 10min of pics? 😀

Ubud Water Palace is an incredible cultural gem that offers an authentic Balinese experience. The stunning architecture, serene atmosphere, and rich history make it a must-visit. One of the highlights is their thoughtful gesture of providing traditional Balinese clothing, which adds a deeper connection to the culture as you explore the palace grounds. The ambiance is peaceful, and every corner tells a story steeped in tradition. It's perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in the local heritage and beauty of Ubud. Highly recommended for a unique and enriching experience!
