EDIT : Regarding the reply from the pub, I don't think this is true, as there were a lot of staff in there and none of them looked busy serving, they were busy packing up for the day, and the pub certainly wasn't what I would call overly busy or full, and as I said no one was eating, so I assume food service had been stopped earlier. There was nothing to state they weren't serving food, and menus were still on the tables and only got removed after we asked if they were still serving. Kitchen staff seemed to leave before 9, and the bar wasn't busy serving people as there was no one around the bar waiting to get served at any point, so to say they were too busy to serve food is just not really an acceptable excuse in my opinion. Maybe if they stop serving food for any reason at least have a sign up to state so. Not the normal good Greenking service that I am used to, having also worked in Greenking pubs, they normally would not stop serving food until the cut off time, unless the kitchen was on fire.
Gave 1 star only because the building was lovely, but other than that a bad time. They stopped serving food before the 9pm cut off, and when my husband left his review stating that we couldn't get food at 8.30pm they replied it was due to high number of orders, this cannot be true as when we went in there no-one was eating, and we were sat near the kitchen and no food came our in the time we were there, so someone's telling fibs!! Gorgeous venue but really annoyed that we couldn't eat, and even more annoyed by being lied to in their response. Great for drinks, but maybe don't try...
Read moreArrived in Chester for an event in the evening. We had travelled for a few hours and were hungry so after a short stroll came across this bar and thought this looks good. I ordered the steak sandwich which sounded nice. When it arrived, I obviously had a look inside, rearranged the steak as majority of it was on one side same as the crispy onions. I thought the bread felt dry but ate the half I had in my hand. Picked up the second half and noticed I had a piece of bread that was near the end of a loaf as the crust was hard, dry and most definitely not fresh farmhouse. The atmosphere was dead, I could hear the full conversation from the women a few tables down, no one came to check on us to make sure everything was ok, the mayo got dumped down by the member of staff and that was it. When we had finished we sat for 10 minutes with our empty plates as the bar staff gathered round the bar chatting. I was going to share my thoughts on the bread situation but then decided it would be pointless as there was no customer care. We walked through the bar to leave, no thank you from staff, no goodbye, they just carried on with their conversation. There was literally about 3 occupied tables in the whole place so not exactly rushed of their feet and the unoccupied table next to us had empty glasses on it during our hour there. We then went to be at one bar, excellent service and very welcoming and worth paying the extra on drinks. Overall thoughts, overpriced, lack of customer service and...
Read moreFirstly I would like to say we are not the complaining type of people that like to complete reviews but on this occasion we were so disappointed as we have made many a visit to Chester and admired this pub on passing and this time we made it our business to go inside for lunch and drinks. We just loved how it looked inside and out.Unfortunately the food was not good.. We bought our drinks then we both ordered fish and chips, (one of the easiest things to cook besides a burger) a side salad with no dressing and onion rings well done. As the server headed towards us with our food it was already visible that the fish on both of our dishes was in a cremated state so therefore should not have even been served to us. My husband instantly refused his fish and asked for it to be replaced and I reluctantly accepted mine, which in hindsight I should have also refused as the fish was visibly overcooked and on cutting in to it there was hardly any fish remaining beneath the incinerated batter and was just breaking into tiny bits. Not a good start to our looked forward experience at this pub. The side salad was presented to us as having no dressing on it as requested only to find it did and the side of onion rings was inedible as they were rock hard and not crispy as should be if just well done as requested. Sadly the replacement fish served to my husband was also overcooked and not enjoyable so we both left with the knowledge we would not be...
