Beautiful Gardens on the Great Orme, overseeing Llandudno bay, with great views of the Pier, Promenade, and Little Orme. There are loads of picturesque sightlines within the Gardens that are great for photos, so much so you'll have to keep stopping in your tracks to make sure you capture the moment. The Garden has somewhat of a Alice in Wonderland theme, with wooden sculptures and a band stand being themed off characters from the story. This has been done as a reference to how Alice's real life inspiration, Alice Liddell used to go on holidays to Llandudno as a child.
Good for picnics, as unlike the Promenade there aren't any seagulls trying to the steal your food, and there is also a small cafe if you didn't bring along any food. There are plenty of benches spread out across the gardens, if you want to take a rest from walking or you just want to soak in the views. Alternatively, you could also use the lawn to sit down and admire the view or have a look at it's landmarks including the aforementioned band stand, stone circle, and Queen Victoria bust. Nearby is a Cable Car Ride, which for the brave traveller, rewards them with even greater views of the Orme, though it is a bit pricey at £11 per person for a return ticket. Overall the place is a must visit when coming to Llandudno, as it's only a short walk from the promenade, it's views are outstanding, and most...
Read moreWhat is about this listing that compels people to unload any old random photo they happen to find? I'd say at least half the photos illustrating Happy Valley Gardens are completely irrelevant and have absolutely nothing to do with the listing. Happy Valley Gardens are, as the name suggests, gardens and not the promenade, the pier, the tramway, a beach or some random place on the top of the Great Orme as many of the photos incorrectly suggest. And they certainly aren't a castle thirty miles away from Llandudno John May!
The gardens themselves are grassy at the bottom and ideal for picnicing before sloping up quite steeply towards the ski slope where you'll find more trees and plants. They're reasonably well tended but a bit scruffy towards the top which may be down to the slope which must make using lawnmowers, etc very difficult.
The gardens are dotted with references, such as wooden statues, to Llandudno's extemely tenuous links to Lewis Carroll so they offer some photo opportunites - providing you have your camera pointed in the correct direction which many of the people have uploaded their photos for this listing haven't...
Read moreTLDR: A lovely place to walk up to when visiting Llandudno; well worth it.
A short walk (maybe 10 minutes) from the end of Llandudno beach near the pier is this lovely park.
Theres superb views of the little Orme, the pier, the sea, and the sky (ha)
The gardens are well maintained, with a nice variety of flowers and plants. It’s not as ‘botanical’ as some, but very pleasant nonetheless.
Theres a lot of routes around, though it’ll only take 10 or 15 minutes to walk all of it. That said, there’s several gated access points to the Great Orme which is a superb bonus!
The ground is all paved etc but can be steep and a bit slippery so, be careful.
Facilities wise, it’s actually a great place to visit. Free toilets are always welcome, and there’s the cafe there too. You will find range of ice creams, snacks, some smaller hot meals and drinks.
Note, there’s nowhere to park.
Hope you found this helpful! Give it a like if you did so others...
