I can only review given my last experience - and that was a few months ago. However, on this occasion staff were almost non-existent. There was no-one waiting to check tickets so I headed up to the screen, but found a number of people coming out of a previous screening. Eventually I found a staff member who told me to wait at the entrance to the screens while they cleaned up.
Some time later, a number of other people had walked past me into the screen and had come out looking confused - some took seats but nobody knew what was happening. Eventually an attendant took the tickets but the lights were completely off and we had to use the torches on our phones to see. It was lucky I had one as there were a number of families with children who had no light. I was able to help them get to their seat.
Luckily we did have some light as many of the chairs were broken, with bin bags over them, and others were available but broken, so when you sat on them they fell to the floor on one side.
Lights eventually came on when the film started(?!) and were too bright for the duration.
The screen size is small and the sound quality was below that of large multiplex theatres.
Food quantity is extremely small (large is what I would expect a cinema to sell as small or regular) and typically very expensive. The self-service pick-up was not working when we were there and I wasn't able to reserve seats.
I would stick to the Vue, with large screens and well maintained, comfortable seats.
I understand that there has been some updating going on recently. If I dare return I'll update this review. Personally, I think that this smaller cinema should focus primarily on independent and cult films as Hull is crying out for a proper venue for this...
Read moreMy son went to hull today for the first time alone with a group of friends, cracking set of lads hence trusting them to go alone, all excited to see the Minecraft movie, no problems taking their money and sitting them all together until one took a selfie when they got in there, next minute one of the boys is being challenged to leave because he used his phone, my son instantly messaged to say they used the phone before knew the rules maybe tell them the rules when they purchase the ticket!!, absolutely shameful that you one kicked them out and two asked a security guard to remove them who then removed them from st Stephen’s!! A couple of boys was only allowed to go if they stayed in st Stephen’s where they would be safe!! Wasn’t safe at all because they then had to roam Hull, £50 made from this group and they only saw the adverts! No refund issued!! We Won’t ever recommend this cinema and shame on whoever made the complaint that they did a selfie when every single teenager in the world posts a selfie in the cinema the film hadn’t even started!! Get a life and don’t tire kids with the...
Read moreDidn't do Bluelight card discount as advertised by the app. Staff member tried to blag his way past the question and referred it the manager to tell me that Reel Hull doesn't offer the deal, and is the only branch not to do so in the Cinema chain. I wish we had walked at this point but we decided to proceed as it's not a deal breaker. Seats were dirty and damaged such that the base tilted forwards in the down position meaning you slid out. The plastic buckets for smaller children do not work well with the fold down seats and were uncomfortable. There were a number of seats covered in black plastic bags and tape so who knows what horrors lie beneath. The toilets were not very clean and are in desperate need to refurbishment (along with the rest of the facility if I'm honest). Haven't been to Reel for a couple of years prior to our most recent visit and I don't think we will be back soon as the other 2 cinemas in the town centre are much better and it's worth paying more for the luxury one. Sorry Reel but I don't think we will be back...
