Reading positive reviews about this store bamboozles me..!! The store used to be a very good example, one of Tesco's best but since then and as a result of cost savings, they've cut everything back, upstairs is a joke, they may as well close it. Absolute tat and I use the word very lightly 'fashion' The problem is they have too much space since getting rid of their entertainment area (sign of the times) and the photographic area and now selling even fewer electrical appliances. Not to mention the fact they've removed the deli and fish counter and butchers... Turned the tills into a self service mess, all to compete with the German discount supermarkets. Whilst profit is important, I fear the store and brand has lost its identity. It feels like an overly large warehouse, it's lost its pulse and way. It feels like we are back in the 1970s. Above all that though the staff have become work shy, always stood around talking or engaging in horseplay on the shop floor. Happy to mess around but don't want to work for their wage. I've genuinely heard them talk about other members of staff on the shop floor or say that they're not contracted to do this that or the other, should be thankful they have a job in a warm safe environment. Above all else tho my biggest bug bare is for such a large store they never stock anything. They've increased their own products to compete with Lidl, Aldi etc...but even their own products are permanently out of stock. I know there are supply issues at the time of writing but it's ridiculous. I went in this morning to grab a loaf and a bar of chocolate and a couple of other things. I ended up leaving with a lot of alternatives that I had to make do with. Not great whe your actually paying hard earned money for them. Could the people who do the internet shopping also not do this through the night as they just get in the way all the time. Too large a building, an overweight aging whale. I know it wouldn't do well for folks pensions pot or the economy but I'd happily see Tesco's expire. It was once a giant, now it's just a floundering mess. A time to return to the small seller, actual pies from butchers that contain meat, fresh fruit and veg that morning and not just grown to last or look good. Having said that Asda etc are starting to feel the same, perhaps it's...
Read moreI have been shopping at this TESCO for over two and a half years and as someone in his review mentioned, more often than not, it is hard to find staff for help/enquiries. Most of them tend to be around the checkout machines and that's pretty much it. Likewise as it's been mentioned in someone's review, they tend to mislead with the prices, i.e. you take a product which shows a low price then when you checkout you find that the price is higher. It did happen to me when I bought a plastic box, I complained to the Customer Service and the lady came back with an apology because the price was higher but by no means I got a discount/refund for a misleading price. Obviously I had the option to return the box but I really wanted it. I thought: "how many people buy products without checking their bill?" A lot!!!! Including myself, it just happened that I wanted to check the price because I thought it was a good value for money, but if I hadn't done it I would have assumed that I had got a good deal, which it would have been completely wrong!!!
The other thing I dislike is the overwhelming amount of TESCO own brand products compare to traditional branded products. In my experience all the TESCO's brand products that I have tried, not many but enough, are of significant lower quality than the traditional branded ones.
On the plus side, it is open 24 hours most days of the week, if you have a Clubcard membership it is extremely easy to pay for your purchases and it is very unlikely that you find a queue at the checkout machines exclusively for...
Read moreFor the third time in recent weeks today, there were no trolleys available in the store. Some were abandoned around the carpark but the travelator was broken so there was no way to get them up. However, the travelator has been working on past visits and still there have been no trolleys. I asked at customer services if any were on the way, and I was told that they were being taken faster than they could collect them and I just had to wait. After some waiting I realised I did not have time to stand around for much longer, so I asked if I could have a parking voucher so I could go to another supermarket, but they couldn't/wouldn't give me one without spending anything - even though I couldn't do my shop without a trolley. It's a handy way to hold customers hostage despite terrible service.
When I eventually got a trolley, the self-scan handsets were not working and would not release. A staff member assured me that they were working, but when he came to help he also couldn't work out the problem and just said I would have to go through a till.
The rest of the shop was in its usual state of chaos, with missing products, empty shelves and a surprisingly poor selection for such a big store. The toilets were filthy, with no toilet paper, broken dispensers and broken door locks.
This store needs some serious support or investment from head office, because standards and equipment are in a horrific state. I will be avoiding it in future - these problems are not unfortunate one-offs, but have now become the norm...
