we ate here last night, they take no reservations walk ins only, but thankfully we were seated right away and we chose to enjoy the glorious sunshine and sit outside in the courtyard area. our waitress told us about the specials and brought us some refreshing water while we decided. the pork paella on the menu caught our eye, so we ordered it along with a few tapas to have as starters as there’s a 30 min wait for the paella (and worth every one!) we ordered the bread & olive oil and the tomato salad. the bread proved that simple food can be done well and taste amazing! bread, salt, oil… perfection! wonderful texture, lovely amount of oil and salt to finish. delicious! the tomato salad was so much more than just a salad, it had onions and capers and cheese that was simply amazing. we could have happily eaten a huge plate of just this! the main event, the paella, was out of this world. the meat was lovely and tender and fell off the bone. the flavour was full bodied and rich and full of garlic, mushrooms and saffron. it’s a very big portion but we were hungry and happily full when we had finished. we even saved some of the bread to mop up all the lovely juices.

I definitely recommend a visit to this Tapas bar. Great food, quick service, very friendly and helpful staff and a small outside area to sit in, which gets filled very quickly on sunny days. The day we visited was very hot and the back room was very humid, but staff were happy to reseat us near the doors where there was a breeze blowing through. We ordered a half litre of sangria which was around £10. Lovely, cold and fruity but didn't last very long. You get one small glass each, so it seemed a little expensive for what you got. We ordered 4 items from the tapas menu, olives, tortilla, corn nuts and bread with tomato. The Perelllo olives were my favourite and we left with a small can of them. They're marinated in chilli oil, but only slightly spicy.

Very nice tapas restaurant! Very quaint and cosy! You cannot book, and there was a wait when we visited (around 7:45pm on a Friday night). Staff told us our wait would be 30 minutes and we were seated within that time, so bonus. Food was amazing, staff were really helpful to advise us on what we should choose given that my partner does not eat beef. I was on Estrella but had a couple of glasses of Sangria, which was very nice. If you're in Chester and fancy eating tapas then I highly recommend visiting Porta. You will not be disappointed. Well worth the wait (if there is one) and a jug of Sangria paired with your food is a very wise choice! Thank you so much to the Porta staff for a nice and enjoyable experience, as well as an amazing meal!

We were greeted with a warm welcome to this lovely little Tapas Bar, upon telling the server about my allergy he swiftly bought back a customised menu highlighting what I could eat and what ingredients they could switch out for which was fantastic and allowed us to order quickly! Food started to arrive quickly and was delicious. However I quickly found out that one of the dishes that they highlighted on my customised menu that should of been adapted hadn't been. I quickly checked with the server as I thought something tasted wrong and unfortunately my suspicion was correct - I had been served a dish I shouldn't have been, as such I proceeded to be ill in the restaurant, far from ideal! Whilst mistakes happen, they way the restaurant dealt with it is what really shocked me. For sometime the servers avoided our table and despite there obviously being something wrong no one came & checked. Finally when someone did come over they were very defensive & implied despite me ordering from the customised menu they provided it was my fault as the server was not aware although I was pointing to the customised menu - it took sometime before an apology was finally given & even then it was not forthcoming. The most concerning thing was the staff did not seem to understand the potential severity of this situation. This definitely put a dampener on a visit to what I'm sure is truly a lovely, lively tapas bar but would caution anyone visiting with an allergy to be double &...

Was walking around chester on the city wall recently with my brother and suddenly smelt Some lovely food was being cooked looked over the wall and there was porta wine and tapas bar . There where tables outside in the sun 🌞 ☀️. So we decided that we should stop for lunch . What a great decision 👏 👌 🙌 👍. We as we approached the table the sever came out to us with a welcoming smile. Asked us if we would like to take a seat on the sun drenched table which we Happy agreed to. We had jamon croquettes 2 patatas braves a pan con tomatoe and some delicious thinly sliced iberico Jamon. All of which where delicious 😋 😍. To drink I had a non alcoholic beer and my brother had 43 Liquer on the rocks which is made up of 43 botanics including vanilla and hints of orange 🍊. My beer was ice cold and delicious 😋. My brothers drink was also delicious he had never tried licor 43 before so I recommend it to him which he enjoyed so much . The menu is authentic Spanish. I can vouch for this as I lived in Barcelona for 7 years. So I you are in chester or having a walk along the city wall . I would recommend that you take a pit stop here for a drink or some Lunch. The prices are reasonable and service is excellent. Thanyou all the team at porta wine and tapas. Will visit again soon when back in chester in a few...

A somewhat underwhelming meal at Porta last night having not been since they extended into the restaurant next door. Expecting the old system of queueing at the door, we were pleasantly surprised to be ushered into a bar room upstairs where we had a drink and some nibbles while we were waiting. After about 10 minutes we were called and escorted down to our table in the restaurant.

We surveyed the menu and were pleased to see some of our old favourites and excited to try some of the other dishes we had not seen before.

This is tapas and we expected to get our dishes as they were prepared at intervals, but it came in a strange order for example the carrots which were a cold dish and surely pre-prepared came right at the end of the meal and there were really long pauses between dishes, too long in fact. Some of the staples like the Patatas Bravas and Tortolla were delicious but the Chorizo and Lentil Stew seemed to have had the wine (and the taste) removed. In fact, this was the general order across most of the dishes we ordered, watery and fairly tasteless.

The staff were attentive but it all just seemed quite slow.

Value wise it was OK and we paid the service charge. Perhaps we went on a bad day but for us the place just seemed to have lost its sparkle and we are unlikely to return...
