Just like mom used to make, if your mother made a lot of ready meals.
While I did not stay here, I went to their restaurant expecting to have a decent meal. I ordered a starter (duck egg with tomato sauce and some form of meat), a cider (rekorderlig, was nice, but i don't give point for opening a bottle), and a main (satay chicken with noodles).
The starter was ok, not fantastic and the tomato sauce seemed a lot like the rekorderlig, out of a bottle from a large corporation, wouldn't be writing this review if the main was that standard.
The main had a lot going for it, and none of it good. It arrived quickly after my starter, a little too quickly in fact (can anyone else hear a ding?), the chicken seemed pre-cooked and sliced roast chicken, something you expect to buy from tescos after work. The sauce was bland, and not enough of it to cover the noodles, which themselves, were more like spaghetti and low quality stuff at that. There were vegetables in the noodles but not many and did not go with the satay sauce or each other, consisting of very small amounts of red pepper, baby sweetcorn, bok choi, and bean sprouts. I paid £26 for this, I got a starter, main and cider from a gastropub about 500 meters down the road which was under £20 and I knew what I was eating was fresh and cooked before it was given to me.
All the while, their was whom i assume to be a member of staff was preforming card tricks to a family. I would not have minded this, but he was there for a good 20 minutes and was so load he drowned out the conversation i was having with the people in the table next to me. seriously obnoxious.
The only good bit of news I can give for this terrible outing what that the lady who served me was nice. that is all.
Basically, unless you are staying in the hotel and have no intention of walking even the shortest of distances, risk the restaurant and take the chance of getting food poisoning (I taste stomach bile as i write this). If you want good quality food for good prices, try the local pubs, if you want food quickly, go get a McDonalds, its cheaper and...
Read moreWent for a friends birthday meal, they were very accommodating when I brought a cake in and asked for a bottle of Prosecco on arrival. Our first waiter (who finished his shift after we ordered) was lovely. From this point on it went downhill. We were booked in at 6:30pm on a Sunday, when they stop serving at 7pm. We were sat by the open kitchen pass and had front row view to watch and hear one of the chefs complain about our order and moan that the kitchen should be finished by now. This chef then proceeded to stare at us while we ate our starters, tapping on the pass as he stared directly at us and at his watch. We all noticed this and immediately felt uncomfortable. They walked past and stared at our plates many times to keep checking if we had finished yet, all while the chef stared on and moaned more. We watched as our mains were getting plated before we were finished with our starters as they clearly just wanted to finish work. While we understand their position and the want to finish work, it was 7pm and it is their job. They should not allow people to book tables at this time if it is a problem. When this was discussed with the manager about how uncomfortable we had been made to feel, his simple response was ‘that’s not good, I will talk to him’ with not a single apology or complimentary offer in sight. As someone who works in hospitality, the bare minimum you offer an offended customer is an apology. I will compliment the cocktails and the food quality. But that’s it. I don’t care if you’re going to talk to the chef about his attitude as I will not be going back. I care about an apology for ruining my friends birthday dinner in a place where it is your job to provide a service. Even as we were eating our mains and the chef was having a drink at the bar he continued to stare at our table. Very intimidating for four young female adults. I am all for a moan at work at the end of the day but at least do it behind closed doors. Poor attitude from chef...
