I thought that The Coach House Inn is a wonderful place to stay. It was great value for money it’s perfectly located in the centre of Chester and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were very comfy and the food was wonderful. We stayed one night on Friday 2nd May to Saturday 3rd May and we will definitely be staying there again. I think we have found our ideal place to stay when we are visiting Chester. The food in the restaurant in the evening was beautiful and we also got a half price bottle of wine when we eat, which was a lovely bonus. In the morning we had a wonderful breakfast that kept us going for the day. We stayed as a couple and me and my wife would definitely recommend staying here when visiting the beautiful city. If you’re not looking for somewhere to stay I would recommend it anyway for somewhere to have a wonderful meal or even just a drink. There is plenty of outside seating area outside the front of the beautiful building. If you are not wanting to sit outside then the inside is also wonderfully decorated with a very nice contemporary modern design. The have a nice selection of beers wines and cocktails. Once again I will have to mention how wonderful and friendly all the staff were.

I was disappointed on this visit. The barman was lovely but apart from that the customer service was really slow and nobody came back to check all was ok with our meals. I had Brie and cranberry sauce starter but the sauce wasn’t like cranberry at all, it was really thick and gritty - almost like the texture of fig. My garlic bread was solid and had an odd taste. The rest of the meals however were really nice. Despite booking at 7pm it got to 10pm and one friend had to leave before dessert as she had work the next day and the time it was taking to serve we didn’t think we would be finished by 11pm. We had hot chocolates instead and they had run out of squirty cream but to be fair the barman was very apologetic about this and doubled up on the marshmallows. The decor of the place was lovely and the toilets were spotless. The other reviews for this place are really good so hopefully just a one off experience for us.

Two big mistakes I made when booking this establishment: first I hadn't realised it was Race week at Chester Races, the second was booking this place!! In the restaurant area there's a chalk board which exclaims their "luxurious ensuite bedrooms". I consider basic, tired and small would be a better reflection. We met friends for dinner so had booked a table in the "restaurant" another poor error of judgement. I had overcooked chicken and one of our friends a cold cottage pie (this was replaced with a better version, apparently). Naturally, not the experience I was hoping for and at an amazing £160 a night without breakfast!! Thank goodness we didn't have to suffer that. Subsequently, I've seen rooms at around £80 per night which is a more reasonable reflection of the "hotel" outside of Chester Races weeks. To end on a positive; Samantha, was fantastic and deserves to be hosting in far better surroundings.

Just like mom used to make, if your mother made a lot of ready meals.

While I did not stay here, I went to their restaurant expecting to have a decent meal. I ordered a starter (duck egg with tomato sauce and some form of meat), a cider (rekorderlig, was nice, but i don't give point for opening a bottle), and a main (satay chicken with noodles).

The starter was ok, not fantastic and the tomato sauce seemed a lot like the rekorderlig, out of a bottle from a large corporation, wouldn't be writing this review if the main was that standard.

The main had a lot going for it, and none of it good. It arrived quickly after my starter, a little too quickly in fact (can anyone else hear a ding?), the chicken seemed pre-cooked and sliced roast chicken, something you expect to buy from tescos after work. The sauce was bland, and not enough of it to cover the noodles, which themselves, were more like spaghetti and low quality stuff at that. There were vegetables in the noodles but not many and did not go with the satay sauce or each other, consisting of very small amounts of red pepper, baby sweetcorn, bok choi, and bean sprouts. I paid £26 for this, I got a starter, main and cider from a gastropub about 500 meters down the road which was under £20 and I knew what I was eating was fresh and cooked before it was given to me.

All the while, their was whom i assume to be a member of staff was preforming card tricks to a family. I would not have minded this, but he was there for a good 20 minutes and was so load he drowned out the conversation i was having with the people in the table next to me. seriously obnoxious.

The only good bit of news I can give for this terrible outing what that the lady who served me was nice. that is all.

Basically, unless you are staying in the hotel and have no intention of walking even the shortest of distances, risk the restaurant and take the chance of getting food poisoning (I taste stomach bile as i write this). If you want good quality food for good prices, try the local pubs, if you want food quickly, go get a McDonalds, its cheaper and...

Went for a friends birthday meal, they were very accommodating when I brought a cake in and asked for a bottle of Prosecco on arrival. Our first waiter (who finished his shift after we ordered) was lovely. From this point on it went downhill. We were booked in at 6:30pm on a Sunday, when they stop serving at 7pm. We were sat by the open kitchen pass and had front row view to watch and hear one of the chefs complain about our order and moan that the kitchen should be finished by now. This chef then proceeded to stare at us while we ate our starters, tapping on the pass as he stared directly at us and at his watch. We all noticed this and immediately felt uncomfortable. They walked past and stared at our plates many times to keep checking if we had finished yet, all while the chef stared on and moaned more. We watched as our mains were getting plated before we were finished with our starters as they clearly just wanted to finish work. While we understand their position and the want to finish work, it was 7pm and it is their job. They should not allow people to book tables at this time if it is a problem. When this was discussed with the manager about how uncomfortable we had been made to feel, his simple response was ‘that’s not good, I will talk to him’ with not a single apology or complimentary offer in sight. As someone who works in hospitality, the bare minimum you offer an offended customer is an apology. I will compliment the cocktails and the food quality. But that’s it. I don’t care if you’re going to talk to the chef about his attitude as I will not be going back. I care about an apology for ruining my friends birthday dinner in a place where it is your job to provide a service. Even as we were eating our mains and the chef was having a drink at the bar he continued to stare at our table. Very intimidating for four young female adults. I am all for a moan at work at the end of the day but at least do it behind closed doors. Poor attitude from chef...

A pub I always look forward to visiting on any trip to Chester I take is The Coach House Inn,been here before on many occasions over the years, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit to here. ||A great looking pub, interior is superb, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, pubby decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and when the weather is good outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Northgate Street. ||We ordered beers from Staropramen Brewery, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub while we sipped our beers. ||A big fan of this most famous of Czech beers, been to Prague and Pardubice dozens and dozens of times so I've developed a real taste for this beer ,love this beer ,its a golden, light and hoppy lager style beer bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this pub,its hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with beers served in this good a condition by staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their pub. ||We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. ||The Coach House Inn is easy to locate along Northgate Street, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants and some amazing architecture and a major tourist destination. ||Opening hours are;||Monday to Sunday, open from 10am. ||Well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning a...
